Quirky restaurant with great food

We visited this restaurant as result of Trip Advisor recommendation. We were pleased that we were given a table even though we hadn't booked and it was very busy. We were politely told that we had a limited time, 1.5 hours, but that was fine in the circumstances. The decor is very cosy and... read more

Myself and my partner visited here recently after a really enjoyable walk from Bray along the Cliff. We chose this restaurant after some locals told us it was the best in town and it didn't disappoint. It was a Sunday and packed with happy diners. We both had the Beef which was mouth watering and the best "Yorkshire puddings" ever!!!... More

Dear ZoeB, Just a short note of sincere thanks for your lovely review of our restaurant yesterday. We were delighted that you chose the H.M after The Cliff Walk(a fantastic amenity for Bray/Greystones). Furthermore your comments about the "mouth watering" Beef were very well received by the kitchen staff:-) Once again, sincere thanks and we look forward to serving you... More

I hadn't been to The Hungry Monk for several years and don't really recall how it was when I was last there. My family and I decided to go yesterday to celebrate my brother's fortieth birthday, there were 10 of us altogether. From the moment we walked in it was great, completely following the monk theme with the darkness, the... More

But lame title aside, we popped in here on a whim for a birthday lunch and it delivered in every way. The whole monk vibe is great, from pictures of them playing saxophone on the walls to gregorian chant playing in the toilets. The owner, or at least who I figured was the owner, was really helpful and we could... More

I've had dinner here on many occasions and enjoyed it. Yesterday, my friend and I went out to grab a bite in the Hungry Monk. We didn't have a reservation and were given a seat at the bar. It was great to get a seat despite being a Friday evening. We ordered food and I notice an ant on table... More

Dear Laoise1990, It is with sadness that I read your review of our bistro yesterday. I firstly want to apologise for the fact that there were some ants on the bar counter. It was a first for us so I hope you will accept that we were not in a position to give you prior "warning". I have spoken to... More

Dropped by the Hungry Monk today (Easter Bank Holiday Monday). Great atmosphere to the place, with significant efforts made to play up the monastic theme (bathrooms named Convent/Monastery with music etc). Staff were really friendly, easy-going, professional, helpful. Food was excellent (had the duck liver/apricot/pistachio parfait with red onion marmalade and the tapas style chicken dish for main). Will definitely... More

I had not been to the Hungry Monk for nearly 20 years. I remember it as a place of great food, well priced and a super wine list (again not badly priced). Owned and run by one of Ireland's best and most likable restaurateurs. Well my memories remained in tact when we (4 of us) visited on Saturday night last.... More

Ate here on a Sunday night as part of a party of seven. We ate in the bistro part on the left as you walk in. It's a quirky little restaurant and the two men working there were so friendly and full of craic...two rockets, in the most affectionate sense of the word. They made us feel very welcome and... I have eaten in The Hungary Monk many times, family occasions, girls night out, friends night out, there is always good service, good food & nice atmosphere - its family owned & run, restaurants have come & gone in Greystones over the past 35 years I have been going there but "The Monk" has withstood the test of time.

There are three options for this marvellous restaurant - early bird set menu, fab but a little limited especially if you have children with you. The evening menu in the main restaurant which is great, really top class and a very large selection but a little expensive and the Bistro down stairs - this is where we ate this evening... More
