Competent. Enjoyable. But not special

You'd expect a five-course 70-euro meal to be a little bit special, but our experience at Ballymaloe never quite reached that category. Certainly the staff are friendly and helpful and the offer of "seconds" for the main course (some very nice lamb) was appreciated, but overall I never felt that... read more

Hugely disappointing after hearing so much about this restaurant. Having been told by so many people that a visit to Ballymaloe House for dinner is a must should one be in the area we duly booked expecting a gastronomic delight. Having had a great lunch in Middleton earlier we opted for the two course option of the menu....and thank heavens... More

Myrtle Allen is like the Alice Waters of Ireland! the food was so amazing and just simply prepared! the restaurant is inside of this beautiful old building, which just adds to the charm. we ate there for lunch and while all of the food was great...the dessert trolley was completely unexpected...luckily we still had a little bit of room left!... I ate at Ballymaloe House for my birthday in March and it was a real treat. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. We were shown to the drawing room first where we were given menus and our drink orders were taken. It was so relaxing. Shortly after we were shown to the dining room, there are different little dining... More

I booked a special Sunday lunch in the restaurant of Ballymaloe, the service was fine, nothing spectacular, the menu choice was extremely poor, there was 5 choices, I was forced by the waitress to try the venison, what I received was exceptionally poor, it was a dish covered in watery mash potato and about 5 small dices of venison cut... Tasty food, but a very small restaurant. Again another lovely setting, service could be a little slow, but staff very friendly!

We visited Ballymaloe for a big family lunch on Easter Sunday. Given my knowledge that Ballymaloe ran a successful well renowned cookery school I had a high expectations for the restaurant and was therefore a little disappointed overall. I just expected more of 'wholesome Irish home cooked food'. We were 16 in all and were therefore seated at a long... More

My boyfriend treated me to dinner at Ballymaloe house as birthday gift. I think after the experience he has earnt several brownie points. The building is gorgeous, it has the old world charm so if you like your nuevo chic then this is not for you. All the staff were extremely friendly but without losing the professionalism that goes with... More

Thank you for your comments and we are delighted you enjoyed our more traditional style of food, much of which we produce on the farm or sourced locally. We serve the Hors d'Oeuvre Buffet every Friday & as a starter on most Sunday evenings Hazel More

My husband and I had a meal in Ballymaloe on Friday the 13th March. It was our first visit and hopefully won't be our last. The place has a lovely ambience, the staff are excellent and the food second to none. Everything tasted so fresh and wholesome. The Ballycotton cod was melt in the mouth delicious. Thank you for a... Beautiful farm and grounds with a lovely little cafe to have some lunch. There is a shop there where you can purchase local produce, plenty of cook books and house hold items. Well worth visiting you will not be disappointed.
