My wife and I brought some visitors from Europe here for an evening meal and were not disappointed. The restaurant truly has ambience and the staff were all very attentive to our needs (and patient with us). At no time did we feel rushed. We enjoyed 3 of the many delicious appetizer options, and our entree courses were also fabulous.... More

Spankies is like home to so many locals. The food and atmosphere are great. I noticed in another review, someone stated that it is an odd set-up and you have to order from the cooks in the back. That is only at lunch time. Dinner is full wait-staff and begins at 4 (I think). The same reviewer also stated he/she... More

But I was pleasantly surprised. The food wad good as was the service. I had benefit of visiting between semesters so there was not the jam of students one would expect. Instead it was a quiet, friendly crowd of folks who looked as if they were college professors. My meal was tasty and served hot while my salad was cold,... More

Excellent food, set up a bit odd. Would definitely go back. Open seating, food was "served" quickly. Casual, affordable.

Went here for my friends birthday. Waited a long time just for someone to show up at our table. Drinks were ordered and brought out by someone other than our server, she spilled one fourth of mine on the table, (I should have gotten 1/4 off my $6). Server came and took order. We got appetizer and food. Long time... More

The outside don't look like much, but the restaurant its self isn't too bad. We had heard rave reviews about the bread, but I wasn't that impressed there was some sort of gooey sauce (mayo?) under the cheese that just didn't do it for me. My father ordered the nachos, which he enjoyed, my mother's salad & sister's fish tacos... More

It is absolutely delicious. Some cheese bread on the side just adds to the nice experience. One main point is that when you go it is consistently good. The Food, Service, and atmosphere unlike the chain restaurants on (restaurant row) is always the same. We have lived in Cookeville for over twenty years and have seen restaurants come and go.... You have to figure out where to get your food. You go to the back of the establishment and order from the cooks. Wait and they call your name to pick it up. I ordered the Spankies chicken and I felt it was way too rich. Too much butter and salt. Won't be coming back.

We ate here on a recent trip and the food and drinks were all very good (I had the shrimp taco's and the Mac and Cheese my daughter couldn't finish). It was a bit pricy and they gave you just enough food to leave full but not stuffed. I'd go back for a special treat but not just a "normal"... More
