La Altena is an average Mexican restaurant that has an energetic wait staff and fast ticket times. I recommend their chile poblanos. The iced-tea is brewed and very good.

I work downtown and I have eaten lunch here no less that once a week for the last couple of years. When I first started several years ago, it was great. But recently the service and food have really fallen off. The last few visits, we've had drinks run empty and we just sit around and look at one another... More

We love Mexican food and lots of folks had made the journey to this highly rated Trip Advisor restaurant. So busy the waiters were practically running to try to keep up. Big hearts. Big personalities. They cared about a job well done. I don't know if this is the best Chattanooga has to offer or what but the food was... More

Best in town! Quick, friendly service. Prices are fair. This is a great place for kids as well. One of our favorites in town.

Love this place. Has the best Mexican food in town by far. Awesome Margarita's too. Service is always friendly and fast. So if you want time to chill - don't order right away. Not really a bar area - but the margarita's make up for that aspect. I have been here 15+ times and the food is ALWAYS good. Have... More

Passing through town and found La Altena on Main Street through some searching on the internet. I figured it was going to be good based on the number of cars parked out front and in the lot across the street. Good choice and great Mexican food. Service was super quick and there was no pressure for us to hurry up,... More

Though both of us had some immediate illness after dining here 6 weeks ago, we decided to give the place another try tonight. It used to be our favorite place for Mexican. The service was good, but the quality of the food is no longer commensurate with the price. The frozen margaritas taste good, but save your money and buy... More

This "authentic Mexican restaurant", according to other reviewers, was a big disappointment. Extensive menu but too ambitious for the kitchen. The food quality was below average for other Mexican restaurants and in a dingy facility with a wash basin OUTSIDE the men's toilet "closet". (I almost took a photograph of this!) I had the tough steak fajita barrito with beans... More

Dined here w/spouse last night (our second visit) and had a cheese enchilada, rice and beans and a tamale, rice and beans. Combos were $5.99 each. Delicious salsa. Wide menu variety with lots of choices and most portions very large. Good drink specials and daily specials, too. Friendly and fast staff. Would return.

I love the downtown location. Real, authentic mexican dishes at great prices. Margaritas and fish tacos are my favorite. I always receive excellent service.
