My husband travels to Chattanooga on business several times a month and was busting to take me to La Altena for lunch. Hubby, you were right. The food was outstanding. We both had a pork dinner which was one of the house specials: Carnitas en Salsa Verde. The platter was large, but the food was just the right amount to... more

Once we discovered this place, we really don't go anywhere else for Mexican! Try the Mexican City Tacos and the homemade Guacamole! This is the way Mexican food should be served and eaten. We've never been disappointed by the food or service. more

I am a "foodie" and as a result of this affliction I spend way too much time planning my life around meals and dinning out.  Typically I try and eat off the beaten path. Chili's,Olive Garden,Houston's, and Bonefish have there place don't get me wrong.  There is nothing better than looking around to see nothing at the exit you... more

Tucked away on Main street you may accidently pass up theis Chattanooga hot spot. I was pretty skeptical as we walked toward the entrance of the La Alterna. We were greeted by fairly well spoken english and a festive atmosphere. We just had to order a pitcher of margherita's for our group of six. We were quickly served 2 fresh... more

The Pollo Guadalajara is absolutely my favorite thing on their menu. Chicken breasts grilled to perfection, and cut into strips and served over a bed of Spanish rice, and then covered in queso. The entire staff is one big family (literally, family owned and operated) and they treat you like an extension of that family. I cannot stress enough how... more

This was a great little Mexican food restaurant. After reading the reviews we were not disappointed. It does not appear to be in the best part of town, but we took our chances, parked on the street, and everything was fine. The wait staff was very friendly. We had many "special" orders and they accomodated all of them with no... more

The servers are great! They have a fun attitude and are always friendly. The food is great and they have this Majato Burrito that makes me drool just to think about it now. My favorite thing about La Altena, beside the service and menu items is their free salsa. I have never liked salsa very much, but I can't get... more

I wasn't sure what to expect coming in, but the food here is some of the best tasting mexican food I've found this side of New Mexico. The Chile Relleno was great as well as the Chili Colorado. The only thing that would have better would be a good old fashioned sopapilla.... :) I can make that part at home,... more

We had a late lunch at the Main Street location. It was a very slow day for them, so we were the only ones there. We got to talk to one of the daughters of the family who owns the restaurant, who told us they have just opened their third location out toward Red Bank. I had a Altena quesadilla... more

I almost walked past the restaurant when the waitress pulled us inside. The waitress was really friendly and helpful. Our food was out minutes after ordering it and it was delicious. The waitress made the guacamole herself after we ordered it. The guacamole was the best I have ever eaten. more
