We took the 1880 Train to Hill City and booked a later return trip so we could spend time in town, including lunch at the Alpine Inn. It was a great decision. Whether you want to expand your dining horizons with some authentic German cuisine or stick to the basics, you won't be disappointed.

This place has an atmosphere in which you feel as if you have left the USA and headed back to Europe with its multiple quaint dinning rooms. The food is outstanding because it captures the true essence of German/Swiss food along with have traditional American cuisine also.

I agree with some other reviews that the dinner menu is very limited, but lunch is great! Very good potato soup and the Monte Crisco sandwich is really good.

Wow, can't say anything without having my mouth water. We just came back from Germany 8 months ago, so were a bit apprehensive about trying in Hill City. Wonderful German food. And the bread pudding, I can't believe it wasn't just out of the oven. Don't miss this place.

If you don't like a lot of choices on the menu. Then this is the place to go. There are only two choices for dinner. My wife's steak wasn't cooked the way she ordered it.

One of the better meals we had on vacation. Westminster Croissant Sandwich and a Beef and Cheddar Sandwich. Both with German Potato Salad. Excellent!

Dinner at Alpine is meat and potatoes - really, that's it, no options. But it's amazingly popular, with a long line forming at 4:30 every day for their 5:00 dinner opening. But we found the restaurant crowded and noisy and the quality of food and service to be far less than wonderful. We were advised that lunch is better, with... More

The price of the meal was quite reasonable. The dinner options were limited to a six or nine oz filet or a or a cheesy noodle dish. Our girls enjoyed the latter, while we opted for the filets. We arrived at the restaurant at 7:45 and the first opening for five was at 9:00. It was worth the wait.
