We had planned on a picnic lunch after much sightseeing. However, walking through delightful Hill City we found the Alpine Inn. Our friend of German/Swiss origins insisted we stop, as it is so difficult to find this kind of food. The luncheon portions were just the right size. The four of us had outstanding entrees of schnitzel, smoked pork chops... More

It is a simple menu and concept. Wedge salad, home made ranch, bacon wrapped filet, baked potato and dessert. My friends raved about it and went back to enjoy it by themselves again. Steaks are average! I've had much better filet at around the same price. Dessert is another matter!!! You can just order dessert out on the veranda;)

The Alpine Inn is well known by locals and tourists alike for great steaks, but really the deserts are amazing and not to be missed. Simple menu, but great food and fun Old World atmosphere. Lunches are somewhat of a differnt menu than evenings, both are worth the trip and the wait. And you will wait!!!!!!!!!!!!

After hearing a lot of people talk about this place we decided to give it a try. We had an old couple visiting us (they are like parents to me) so on our way to the Crazy Horse we stopped by at the Alpine Inn. They had a wait so we put our name down and went to the bar... More

We had the half-portion of the superb Reuben and the delicious Beef and Cheddar. Just the right amount of food for a light lunch. German potato salad was light and tasty with chives and a tangy vinaigrette. Really busy with large groups in the place for lunch, yet still attentive service.

This restaurant is mentioned by everyone to try. It is located in old hotel rumored to be haunted. The menu consists of only two choices, somewhat odd but we went for it when one choice was filet mignon for $11.95. There was a 45 minute wait but we happily sat on the porch sipping local wine filled to the brim... More

We took the 1880 Train to Hill City and booked a later return trip so we could spend time in town, including lunch at the Alpine Inn. It was a great decision. Whether you want to expand your dining horizons with some authentic German cuisine or stick to the basics, you won't be disappointed.

This place has an atmosphere in which you feel as if you have left the USA and headed back to Europe with its multiple quaint dinning rooms. The food is outstanding because it captures the true essence of German/Swiss food along with have traditional American cuisine also.
