Great little place for burgers or breakfast

When we're in the Hills we don't even bother cooking breakfast - with Sugar Shack down the street why would you? Everything is made to order and it can get a bit backed up when they're busy, but it's always worth the wait. The best part - the waitresses listen to the customer and the cook listens... read more

This used to be a really great place to sit and have breakfast or a giant greasy burger while being entertained by the regulars. But now? The miserable, rude staff completely ruin the entire experience.

Juicy, flavorful and best burger I've ever had and that was several years ago. Would go back in a heart beat if could get back to the area. Place was packed. Glad we listened when it was suggested!

The grease smell was bad enough, but that was eclipsed by a very strong pneumonia smell, which came from a worker hauling a mop up from the basement bathrooms and walking thru the entire restaurant with it! Food was okay. Beer but no wine.

I received word that this was the best burger in the hills. With that anticipation I went to see for myself. Sadly, I watched the cook pull a frozen burger out of the freezer and throw in on the grill. No love. Don't waste your time.

What can I say after that title? Besides being the best cheeseburger I've ever had, it was an awesome sight to see the waitress and cook handle a large group (about 15 people) who arrived about the same time we did. Like a well-rehearsed orchestra! This is a modest diner on the side of the road. I am a bit... More

The Sugar Shack is often on the list of places for 'the best burger in the Black Hills' and they do serve really big, good burgers. Good service. It's a tiny place on Hwy 385, with outdoor seating during the summer and limited parking but popular year round. Worth the drive to get there.

First thing through the door we were greeted by a server who immediately had an "I don't give a crap" attitude. She didn't give her name but she was tall, wore glasses and had a tattoo on her neck. As we placed our order she just gazed around like she was bothered by us being there. When we asked what... More

A group of us came for lunch, and had hoped they'd have a slightly bigger menu. I myself had hoped they would have a veggie burger. Sadly no. Their offerings are limited to regular burgers, fried apps, and soda. The staff acted like they didn't want to be there.
