A sure must if you visit Spartanburg

If you are looking for a culinary masterpiece this might not be the spot for you. BUT if you are looking for an experience, good and greasy food and a great atmosphere this is just the place! The Beacon is more of an experience than a culinary delight but that's what makes it fun. You start trying to decide just what to order off of their rather large menu. Once you decide one your main course you have to go with the "O'Plenty" so you get a mountain of fries and onion rings. It's always fun to... More

Dating back to 1946, Beacon Drive-In is rather cool in that you enter the restaurant, belly up to the counter and give a "caller" your order. You then continue down the bar, pick up a dessert if desired and pay at the end of the counter. The iced tea is yummy, a mix of lemonade and sweet tea! And the... More

This place has been around for 50 years or better and it's a crowd pleaser from the "caller" to the greasy burger. Just don't visit Krispy Creme after this or you are sure to get sick! Local dive and the fries and onion rings are really best is small quantities. Known for their sweet tea!

Well its most of the things you've read about and heard. BIG portions greasy but good, if you just have to gain 5lbs come here for a meal and you've accomplished your mission. This place has no care about calories, cholesterol, clogged arteries, none of that. It's just plain ole greasy fattening good food! Beware you can't eat this food... More

Stepping through the door of this restaurant is like walking into how a restaurant was in the 50's It is an amazing culinary experience. Don't be afraid of the "Call it" the way to order.

We just left The Beacon and despite what other reviews say, we were extremely pleased. It's 10 minutes off I-85. Mr. Jerry and the owner (apologies, didn't ask his name) greeted us and we admitted it was our first visit so we had questions re ordering. They asked where we were from (Florida) and welcomed us. Mr. Jerry gave me... More

It's the experience more than the food. This is your old time greasy spoon, southern fare. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and the best onion rings in the state. The clientele is an eclectic crowd of white collar professionals, blue collar workers, students, and a few snobbish Yankees attempting to be food critics. It's a good idea to get your cholesterol checked... More

First, let me say that I am a shameless lifelong fan of the Beacon. I grew up in Spartanburg, and have been dining at the Beacon for as long as I can remember. My personal favorite is a Slice-a-Plenty, although in my later years I have eliminated the fries. The onion rings, large, are my go to. I have been... More

If you are not sick, you do not want to try this. I am still recovering from eating at The Beacon! I was dizzy, sick to my stomach.
