Could be something special.

The food was good. They have a seafood soup/chowder that is amazing but its pricy for the type of place it is and not a very large serving for the price. The squash casserole is probably my favorite side. Very no frills atmosphere and could be tidier. Our server seemed new and/or uncertain and had... read more

Sarah and Bill Green are wonderful. Try the gumbo. Low Country gumbo is not New Orleans gumbo. What a beautiful historic building. The owners are charming. This is a wonderful place to stop for history and good food. Get to know the Low Country culture with these wonderful people and their local Low Country Cuisine.

This place can be hard to find, but the owner has been on Martha Stewart 3 times for his food. real spices, food just like they have been making it for 200 years. a bit expensive, but a real adventure in the Lowcountry

18 of us chose Gullah Grub for supper while camping at nearby Hunting Island State Park. The restaurant normally closes at 5:30, but stayed open just for us! Sweet grass basket artist Jery Taylor was there, showed us her beautiful baskets and even helped with waitressing duties. Even though some of the orders were slow coming out of the kitchen,... More

We stopped here for lunch and were entranced by the local artwork and the videos featuring the chef/owner and his recipes. My husband had the BBQ chicken--some of the best I've ever tried. The macaroni and cheese looked strange, but it was delicious. I had red rice, a dish I'd never had before, and found it delicious, with a mysterious... More

The chef/owner was locking up when we arrived, but he opened the door and let the two of us in for dinner, though no one else was left in the place. He and his wife (I assume) were exceptionally hospitable, taking the time to talk with us at length. The cornbread was absolutely superb, the soups (shrimp gumbo and she-crab)... More

After numerous trips to Beaufort and the Sea Islands, we decided to finally stop in here for lunch. The lady sweeping out back where we parked greeted up with a kind smile and thanked us for coming. Upon entering the establishment, we were greeted by a lethargic older waitress, unsure if she had Gullah roots or not. We picked our... More

We detoured to St. Helena Island on our way to Hilton Head to try this place. It was a unique experience: Unpretentious setting in an old building, friendly but slow paced service, and food that was authentic and good, but not the best Gullah cuisine we've ever tried. We had the shrimp gumbo and the lowcounty crab soup dinner that... More

We decided to try this place out. Its kinda like eating in someones home, dont expect the service to be quick and dont expect refills.the food was pretty good (comfort food) but dont be tricked by anyone saying "you wanna taste this?" If you taste it, you get charged for it! It was an experience.

We wanted to experience some gullah cuisine. So we journeyed to St Helena Island, where we were told that a large gullah community existed. The first restaraunt we found, that was advertised as a gullah restaraunt appeared to be all white. (I am under the assumption that the gullah are black). The next restaraunt was closed, but there was a... More
