Outstanding food

the food was outstanding, seating was by reservation. The front door opened directly onto the diners making it very cold every time someone came in or went out.

Steven W's was once very posh for special dining. But over the last few years it has slipped dramatically. It is never busy for a reason. The menu is now bland for chef's ability. The service is sloppy. The tables and house are in need of cleaning. They are living in their past. We will not pay their top prices,... More

We had just attended a play, Jekyll & Hyde, The Musical, at Newberry Opera House. We chose the matinee, because we live about an hour & 15 minutes away. We did make a reservation at Steven W's Downtown Bistro , not knowing how busy they might be. We were seated immediately and greeted very warmly. Our server spoke of their... More

The restaurant was recommended to me by the woman who coordinates volunteers at the Artist Coop in Laurens. I was so happy we made the drive. The menu selection was outstanding and the evenings specials made it more difficult to decide what to have. The blackened scallops with deviled crab and the crab cakes did not disappoint...they were fresh and... More

Traveling thru we stayed the night in Newberry, SC and enjoyed a really good dinner at Steven W's Bistro, within easy walking distance from the Hampton Inn. We split a Caesars salad and both of us ordered the 7oz. Filet medium rare. Cooked / seasoned perfectly accompanied with piped mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. The bread was very good too.... We live in Columbia, SC and have heard great things about Steven W's for years. We finally had the opportunity to try it during a recent trip to Newberry. I am sorry to say it just didn't live up to the hype. The restaurant itself is very charming, and our service was friendly. However, the menu and food presentation is... More

We always stop in Newberry, SC on our way to Hilton Head Island. We always have dinner at Steven W's. This meal was amazing and we loved it. We had the Caesar salad topped with anchovies and blackened scallops small plate expanded to a dinner portion. It was excellent. Karen and the waitstaff are very friendly and prompt. Steve, the... Two couples went to dinner and had a wonderful meal. Started off with Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer and it was great. The rolls were crusty and hot, yum! Two orders of scallops and crab with pasta, very interesting but delicious! Crab cakes were very tasty and virtually no bread crumbs. The halibut was the special and it was encrusted in... More

We tried a bowl of seafood gumbo each, blackened scallops & grits (appetizer size) and blackened scallops stuffed with deviled crab on angel hair pasta (daily special appetizer). Everything was wonderful and we received outstanding service. Our waitress was super! Scallops were cooked perfectly! Homemade crusty rolls (served with real butter) were delicious. Can't wait to dine here again.
