A South Carolina tradition since 1939, Melvin Bessinger's Bar-B-Q Restaurants are beloved and famous for our St. Louis style pork ribs, chicken and "Best BBQ in Charleston". Great Family Place

We take the family and grandkids here all the time. There is something for everyone and it's a comfortable atmosphere for the kids. Food is consistently good. Will keep coming back with the kids. Great alternative to fast food.

We ordered to go from this place and I'm so glad we got to experience it! The food is SO good! I ordered the salt and pepper brisket with side of sweet potato soufle and fried okra and my husband ordered the half chicken with mac and cheese and green beans. All I can say is WOW! I loved the... After reading many of the reviews here it seems that most positive reviews come from tourists- which makes sense because I can't see anyone from the south thinking this is good BBQ. Stopped for dinner at 5 pm. They were out of sweet potatoes already which seemed strange considering they open at 4. Prices are completely over the top. I... More

We stopped here on a Thursday night to get some pulled pork to go and were very satisfied with the quality of the meat and the side of collards. We would definitely come here again.

This was my first time going to Melvin's BBQ and really didn't know what to order. I ordered a BBQ sandwich which was really good. The secret sauce is fantastic. The onion rings are big and taste like donuts. Not that it's a bad thing. The next time I'm in town I will try out something new on the menu.

I have eaten alot of BBQ in my time and this is the most expensive ever. To top it off the food was cold, you have to pick up at the counter and clear your table. I ordered a cup of water for my son $.25. I spent $23.00 on a small amount of bbq, fries, fried okra a small... More

We always make Melvin's our first stop each fall when we stay at IOP, Charleston, SC. This BBQ beats out Stickey Fingers and all the rest with wonderful food, sides, and people. My mouth starts watering the moment we hit Mt. Pleasant. Even the regular burgers are great! Try it and you will be writing this review next year! enjoy!... More

Went at 12:30 on Tuesday 7/28/2015. Already out of brisket - one of their 3-4 major items. Got take out order. Checked bag and no sandwich just fries and onion ring. Looked in second bag and saw yellow item - thought it was corn bread. Got bsck to motrl to find out it was mustard sauce. Two missing items in... More

We arrived late and swung by Melvin's for take out. It was all we could have wanted for southern BBQ. Definitely a fan of the Carolina BBQ sauces and Melvin's didn't disappoint. Portion hearty, was able to have a couple meals from our order.

Yuummm! You can "smell it" in the air when you get anywhere in the vicinity of this restaurant! Good ole' southern barbecue! The prices are a little high, but it's well worth it! You won't go away hungry. I usually get the little barbecue basket which is always more the I can eat! Oh, and the onion rings are out... More
