A South Carolina tradition since 1939, Melvin Bessinger's Bar-B-Q Restaurants are beloved and famous for our St. Louis style pork ribs, chicken and "Best BBQ in Charleston". But don't take our word for it, come on down and experience the flavor at one of two locations, in Mt. Pleasant and James Island. Thank you for your continued support, y'all!

A Classic BBQ Restaurant

My wife and I are vegetarian, but, when our carnivore friends wanted to dine here, we joined them. We ordered their Veggie Plate which consisted of four choices off the non-meat menu. I had Fried Okra, French Fries, Side Salad, and Mac & Cheese. It was very adequate, and very large. I was... read more

They used to be good and reasonable now their still good but not worth the money. They think the whole town is rich now and make sure that only the rich people can afford it .major bummer especially being that they downgraded their food in the last year

Went there on sat because "the home team" on Sullivans Island was so crowded....should have gone to "sticky fingers"....we had not been there before....and the person taking our order could not give us any idea on certain menu items as they had never eaten it before,,,,someone sitting near us said it can be hit or miss there,,,,,got the brisket,,,,it was... All the southern BBQ favorites at reasonable prices. Often jammed at lunch, but has nice outside seating. The daily specials are well chosen, refills are free, no table service but just pick up your order when called and return to your table.

Tasty barbecue. Try little joe sandwich. Son likes hash and rice. We only do drive-through as always in a hurry it seems. Been going here for 5 years and recommend a stop here if driving by. The south does barbecue right.

Good old fashioned Southern cuisine. Can't go wrong with much of anything here. Get a milkshake and don't skip the giant onion ring!

We came here for lunch on Saturday of three weeks ago after watching a move with two friends. I've been here a few times and I like this BBQ restaurant. We ordered a combo and three burgers. This place has been open for more than 70 years for a reason: food is very good.

Quick, Fresh, Tasty. The Gold Mustard Based BBQ sauce rules. There is a bar full of pickled veggies and such. You can load up on that waiting for your order.

After a long day at Patriots Point we went to Melvin's. I picked this because of other reviews. They have a drive thru window but you can also go inside. When you go inside you walk up to a counter and order. Then you go to an area and fill up your cup with soda or whatever you ordered. Everything... More

We were not from the area and stopped in just because it was convenient to a meeting we needed to go to. The food is awesome. It is a place where you order at the counter. Menu is very easy to read and has a nice selection. We decided to share a 1/2 rack of ribs and it came with... More
