Great Food and Service

The menu looks outstanding and the items we ordered were good, not great but good. We love seafood and there is plenty to choose from.

Return visit to one of John's Islands most popular restaurants.Snagged a last minute reservation via phone. We arrived 5 minutes early and were seated without a wait. The Fat Hen was busy and the noise level varied from good to very loud. Our server was friendly, competent and efficient. We had the onion soup, flounder Nicoise, and the ever popular... More

Without a reservation on Friday, after a day to movie going, we were very served by Austin the great bartender at The Fat Hen, he quickly told us the specials and In quick order we had a great heirloom tomatoes salad and great local fish entree! Everyone was very attentive and responsive. The queen of great Johns Island food.

Tried this place because it was rated # 2 on Johns Island. It was a cozy atmosphere as it was an old house are into a restaurant. Every thing was a la carte. Three of us tried the skinny chicken marinated in Firefly sweet tea vodka and it looked really pretty when served but there was too much cooked kale... More

If you are a foodie, then the short drive from downtown Charleston is worth the 15 minute commute. This quaint restaurant is in an old house, with a veteran crew who know what great service and food are suppose to be. I took my son and several of his friends for his birthday, each with a different dish and there... More

We didn't expect the Fat Hen to be such a local favorite: it was recommended by a non-local. Very casual: we were overdressed, but the food and service were very good. Despite a drive of over an hour, we will probably return.

Always fun and welcoming. Love the people, servers and surroundings. Very excited they now have a cookbook! Can wait to bring some of the SC dishes home to KY. We both had the eggs Benedict. The flavor was great.. But the poached egg was a little over cooked and the not the perfect serving temp.. Now the place was packed..... More

With most ingredients sourced locally, and with a quirky "low country French" menu, Fat Hen stands out as something special in the Charleston area restaurant scene. The cheerful staff is knowledgeable and friendly. FH is often crowded, so prepare for the possibility of a wait even if you have reserved. Worth the trip to John's Island.

Great food and good service. My party of four shared many of the main dishes and all were nicely presented and delicious. The seafood items were mostly locally caught (flounder and shrimp) but the salmon was farmed and not as flavorful as wild-caught.

Hi! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review! We definitely strive to source as much of our seafood and produce locally but sometimes the option is not available. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your dinning experience though and we hope to see you back soon! More
