Description: Chef Fred Neuville is excited to embark on his first solo venture. “With Fat Hen, I am striving to create a neighborhood restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and signature French-inspired Southern cuisine,” he says. “Johns Island is a fast-growing area and I believe island residents – along with others from around Charleston – will appreciate what we have to offer.” Fat Hen’s main dishes center around innovative French classics with Low country flourishes, sourced from the finest local produce farmers. Neuville’s tangy-but-tender BBQ Scallops are first marinated in a house-made pomegranate barbecue sauce, bacon wrapped and grilled to perfection. The Braised Chicken features locally raised free-range chicken braised in red wine with rich bacon lardons, pearl onions & mushrooms. Fat Hen’s Short Ribs, a favorite signature dish among family and friends, is braised for hours in a rich veal broth. In addition Fat hen offers catering services.

The Fat Hen was my wife's favorite restaurant in all of Charleston. She had the quiche and I had the BBQ duck. We both enjoyed our meal but my wife went gaga for the Fat Hen. They are very knowledgeable about gluten-free items as well and were helpful. Be prepared to wait a while. Great food and service. We would... More

We have stayed in Charleston on many occasions and enjoyed dining in town. So this visit we had our fill of low country cuisine (note to every restauranteur in Charleston- we get the locavore thing, but you are starting to make it painful. Of course your ingredients should be sourced locally when possible. This is not ground breaking. Please stop... More

I'm one to thoroughly enjoy a great restaurant with great wine, food and service. This place is now in my top 5 of places to dine. Our family of 6 + a good friend had a blast while enjoying everyting from Coq-au-vin, to steak, to shrimp and my favorite...duck confit! To die for! $20 bottle of wine night only made... More

$26 for the best rib plate I've ever had. So incredibly tender and tasty and big enough portion to share with my husband. They do offer a kids menu but I wouldn't order the hamburger again. It was a little too spicy and undercooked for my 5 year old. Do order the coca cola cake. It sells out for a... More

Our hotel recommended Fat Hen for brunch and we were so glad they did! Was well worth the trip, all food was fresh...brunch supplies you breakfast items or items a little heavier but all with a Southern flair and using local ingredients when they can! We made a reservation online and the staff told us they LOVE when you make... More

Having not been here for awhile, we were very pleased with every aspect of our meal. The staff and server were approachable and pleasant, the wine list generally reasonable, and the selections of appetizers and entrees extensive. And a super selection of desserts! The special (tile fish) was great, as were the main courses that we all enjoyed. There are... More

Great food. Chef Fred is definitely gifted. I enjoyed "The Rib". It was so big it needed its own zip code. I know it's never ok to alter the menu but I just had to have those air whipped mashed potatoes with my rib. Everything about this dish screams perfection: house made bbq sauce, pomme frites, a unique preparation and... More

This is a very good restaurant away from the main streets of Charleston. The seafood is guaranteed fresh and any dish is very tasty. The prices are a little high, however competitive in the area considering it is a high end tourist destination. The lighting was a little dark for dinner and our seating would not be considered a romantic... More
