Description: Chef Fred Neuville is excited to embark on his first solo venture. “With Fat Hen, I am striving to create a neighborhood restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and signature French-inspired Southern cuisine,” he says. “Johns Island is a fast-growing area and I believe island residents – along with others from around Charleston – will appreciate what we have to offer.” Fat Hen’s main dishes center around innovative French classics with Low country flourishes, sourced from the finest local produce farmers. Neuville’s tangy-but-tender BBQ Scallops are first marinated in a house-made pomegranate barbecue sauce, bacon wrapped and grilled to perfection. The Braised Chicken features locally raised free-range chicken braised in red wine with rich bacon lardons, pearl onions & mushrooms. Fat Hen’s Short Ribs, a favorite signature dish among family and friends, is braised for hours in a rich veal broth. In addition Fat hen offers catering services.

This I think was my favorite gastronomic experience of the entire trip. I had a braised lamb shank that was simply out of this world. I think it would be worth the trip there simply to be able to go back there.

I had heard about the restaurant from several friends and coworkers and decided to swing by Monday night. Everything exceeded my expectations. I got the Flounder Nicoise after being expertly guided by Hannah in the bar. She accommodated my dietary restrictions seamlessly and her recommendation was spot on! Her wine knowledge was helpful because my husband and I aren't well... More

My husband and I made it a point to try this place even though it was out of our way due to all the rave reviews. We were not let down. I had the coq au vin(gluten free I might add) and he had the braised short ribs. Wow! We split them both and just barely couldn't finish them off.... More

This restaurant was absolutely unbelievable! Like many of you my travel companion and I have eaten in many delicious locales in various parts of our world and OMGoodness this one ranks at the top. This is modern, southern cuisine with down home goodness and made with so much LOVE. It was as though a grandmother and a five star chef... More

Had dinner at Fat Hen on a busy Saturday night. We had a reservation and were seated right away. The menu was so appealing that it was hard to choose what to order! Our server Roy was enthusiastic and personable and was able to guide us. He worked hard and did a great job! My husband had The Rib which... More

To get some of the best food in Charleston you have to go out of Charleston to John's Island. This was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. I wanted to order everything on the menu. I ended up with the coq au vin which was delicious. But I couldn't resist taking a bite from... More

One of my favorite restaurants in the Kiawah area! Wonderful locally sourced food at moderate prices; great bar with interesting specials; friendly and efficient service. Many meals are or can be made gluten-free. Try the appetizer with oysters, tasso ham and spinach in a cream sauce; also the duck confit is excellent.

From the amazing orange & jalapeno infused tequila, the to-die-for french onion soup, we had a special appetizer of fried pork belly with a vinegarette slaw & poblano grits (OMG, yum), the escargot in garlic butter (must LOVE garlic and I totally do!) then for dinner I had the coq au vin & the hubby had the braised short rib....
