Description: Chef Fred Neuville is excited to embark on his first solo venture. “With Fat Hen, I am striving to create a neighborhood restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and signature French-inspired Southern cuisine,” he says. “Johns Island is a fast-growing area and I believe island residents – along with others from around Charleston – will appreciate what we have to offer.” Fat Hen’s main dishes center around innovative French classics with Low country flourishes, sourced from the finest local produce farmers. Neuville’s tangy-but-tender BBQ Scallops are first marinated in a house-made pomegranate barbecue sauce, bacon wrapped and grilled to perfection. The Braised Chicken features locally raised free-range chicken braised in red wine with rich bacon lardons, pearl onions & mushrooms. Fat Hen’s Short Ribs, a favorite signature dish among family and friends, is braised for hours in a rich veal broth. In addition Fat hen offers catering services.

My husband and I drove from the Andell Inn in Kiawah to eat here. What fun! The atmosphere was kind of eclectic. A little bit of Southern and French with hen decor where ever you looked, but not overdone. Food was excellent. We were surprised with the mason jars but that only added to the quirkiness of it. Would recommend... More

Great food and service. Just outside of Charleston with great food and prices. Pork chop is excellent, Mussels out of this world. Don't miss this quaint place when at Seabrook or Kiawah Island.

LOVE! Have been here about 15 different times over 2 years and never disappointed! Food and service are always A+ and totally worth the money. I would eat here any day over going downtown Charleston!

What a fun find on our way to Charleston! Bustling, loud, casual and GREAT!!! Arrived on a Sunday afternoon, place was packed so we opted for two stools at the bar. Perfect menu with some fun, unexpected surprises, including layered crepes with duck and caramelized onions; carafes of mimosas for ten dollars that were being ordered left and right and... More

Great restaurant but a little on the noisy side. Excellent food and very good service. Water glasses are Bell jars and they leave a carafe of water on the table so there's no need to wait for a refill. You have to try the mussels appetizer. There are three types to pick from. I love mussels and have them every... More

The Fat Hen was just as fun an experience (thanks to our great waiter and the ambience) and just as delicious a restaurant as I remembered from three years ago. We sat in the back (actually roadside) of the restaurant in an enclosed sunroom of sorts and really enjoyed it. It was much quieter than the main part of the... More

Fantastic atmosphere, menu, service, and wine selection. Excellent fried green tomatoes. Skinny chicken was flavorful but light. Great use of local fresh produce. Lamb shank was out of this world!

We have had dinner here for the last 8 years. We have had dinner at some the best that Charleston has to offer, Husk, 82 Queen, and Poogans porch. This place tops all. Very relaxed, and VERY good. The chicken liver app is out of this world! Please try the fat hen out, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

The food and service at the Fat Hen were excellent. I had the most unique meatloaf I've ever had. Everyone enjoyed their meals. If you get the muscles, be prepared for the best buttery sauce you have ever had (asked for more bread so we could soak it up). The specialty here is braised meat and I tried both the... More
