Great Local Favorite

Fat Hen is always good food and great service. We have been going since they opened and have never had a bad meal or poor service. The burgers, mussels, and pomme frites are outstanding. Flounder and Coq au Vin are wonderful.

My husband and I met three other couples for dinner. The place was packed, and there wasn't any place to sit inside, so we stood at the doorway next to tables with guests. (It was dark, but I believe there is seating outside.) We did have a reservation and were seated, once everyone arrived, in about 10 mins or so.... More

We made a reservation for our large group for a Sunday Brunch. I had the vegetarian rice dish with butternut squash which was fantastic. My daughter said her chicken pot pie was one of the best things she has ever eaten. Lemon sorbet with strawberries for dessert was also very good and light. This is a busy place and we... More

I visited on a weeknight with a friend who loves this place, and we sat at the bar for dinner. The restaurant itself is adorable, and the food is very good. It would be great for a night out with friends or a date night. The bartender didn't seem super interested in conversing, but the good outweighed the questionable, and... More

Stopped at Fat Hen on Maybank Highway on our way back into Charleston last night - hadn't been there in ages! Place was full but not packed. Service was good except the waiter steered me to the Grouper selection on the menu which totally lacked a correct description. The fish arrived in a soup bowl of mostly beans with other... More

The Fat Hen is certainly popular. The parking lot is packed as is the restaurant, especially on Sunday brunch. This being said, the food was not especially great. I had the Eggs Benedict which is served with pommes frites, which I found discordant. The Hollandise sauce had a wonderful spice added but the toast the dish sat on was bland,... More

What an awesome birthday celebration!! It had to have been one of the best meals since leaving NY. Our waitress Sarah was both professional and made us feel so special. Brooke ( the manager) really knows how to run a well oiled machine. Appreciated the fact that the runners knew exactly where to place the meals. Had the Tilefish special.... More

Great variety of food, the waiter was very attentive and the food is up to the Charleston standard only at more reasonable prices. Had no complaints and will be going back. Don't let the outside fool you.

Entree' selection great...desserts fabulous...but the creamed corn side--unbelievably good...and I don't even like creamed corn. P.S. People order it for take out by the large tubs!

The Chef/Owner has been on the restaurant scene in Charleston for years. Starting with Rue De Jean before opening the Fat Hen. The food is always top notch and they have a great wine list with a $20 wine list also. Every meal I have had there has been exceptional. This is where the locals go and its well worth... More
