Chef Fred Neuville is excited to embark on his first solo venture. "With Fat Hen, I am striving to create a neighborhood restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and signature French-inspired Southern cuisine," he says. "Johns Island is a fast-growing area and I believe island residents - along with others from around Charleston - will appreciate what we have to offer." Fat Hen's main dishes center around innovative French classics with Low country flourishes, sourced from the finest local produce farmers. The Braised Chicken features locally raised free-range chicken braised in red wine with rich bacon lardons, root vegetables & mushrooms. Fat Hen's Short Rib, a favorite signature dish among family and friends, is braised for hours in a rich veal broth.

Incredible food, excellent service

Visiting friends, outside was not imposing, but inside was funky and fun. Food was beautifully presented, and delicious, as was dessert. If I lived there would be a weekly visitor!

This place has an authentic French feel to it while being true to local low country influence. The result is low country with more variety, and I love the creative menu! We went on a busy Memorial Day weekend, and they were able to reserve us a table in the bar. Of course it was noisy, but it was a... More

My husband and I enjoyed our dinner here very much. It was expensive but delicious. Very authentic, wonderful seafood.

If the shrimp had been any fresher they would still be swimming. The sweetest, perfectly prepared shrimp ever. The only sour note....they put garlic in their butter beans. Blasphemy! The restaurant is in an old house with lots of local art displayed. It was very noisy, but that was because everyone was happy to be there.

Six in our family had 5:30p reservations and were seated when that time arrived. At first not too full, but quickly did fill and as many have said--very loud! We were celebrating a graduation from Med school, so very special occasion and our server handled all that beautifully. We had crab cakes, the flounder special, pork chop and mussels. I'd... More

Let me start my review by saying our dinners were very good. I had the Pork Chops , my companions had the Hangar Steak " Special". When taking our order the waiter mentioned that the steak special came with either a Crab Cake or shrimp. What he neglected to tell us is that these were quite expensive add ons. When... More

I'm in a bit of a rut when I go here - love the way they prepare mussels (moules) and the thin, bistro style fries. That and a good IPA is a great evening.

The fried shrimp here are very sweet (like they are supposed to taste) and sport a delicate coating which does not obscure the pure flavor of the shellfish. The coleslaw has bacon and blue cheese, the fries are crispy, but a little salty.
