Description: Chef Fred Neuville is excited to embark on his first solo venture. “With Fat Hen, I am striving to create a neighborhood restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and signature French-inspired Southern cuisine,” he says. “Johns Island is a fast-growing area and I believe island residents – along with others from around Charleston – will appreciate what we have to offer.” Fat Hen’s main dishes center around innovative French classics with Low country flourishes, sourced from the finest local produce farmers. Neuville’s tangy-but-tender BBQ Scallops are first marinated in a house-made pomegranate barbecue sauce, bacon wrapped and grilled to perfection. The Braised Chicken features locally raised free-range chicken braised in red wine with rich bacon lardons, pearl onions & mushrooms. Fat Hen’s Short Ribs, a favorite signature dish among family and friends, is braised for hours in a rich veal broth. In addition Fat hen offers catering services.

We at fat Hen last night. It was a birthday dinner restaurant request from the birthday boy. We made a reservation ahead of time and were seated relatively promptly upon our on time arrival. This was a sober night out but Fat Hen has a great wine list with an extensive selection of wines under $20/bottle. Something to consider on... More

After a weekend visiting Charleston, you would think that you were full up on great food but then you remember the Fat Hen and you are up for just one more amazing meal! Brunch on Sunday on the way home is just about perfect. Wonderful coffee, nice muffins for the table, fresh fresh eggs and produce, pitchers of mimosa and/or... More

This is a favorite and a repeat visit from an earlier trip. No disappointments in our foursome on the food or the service. I had the meat loaf, mashed potatoes, and creamed corn and ate it all.

We've been to The Fat Hen twice, first with friends from Kiawah and, more recently, with 5 other couples from Aiken. Both times, the food was thoroughly enjoyed by all; the atmosphere was welcoming and lively. The service was both friendly and efficient. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the Charleston area, especially those at Kiawah Island and Seabrook... More

Eight members of our family, ranging in age from 10 to 87, ate at the Fat Hen the night before Thanksgiving. It is located on John's Island so we were able to dine there before going on to see the Christmas light display. Everyone loved their dinner with choices ranging from hamburgers to mussels to wonderfully prepared fresh seafood. We... More

There is always a line just before The Fat Hen opens and I am happy to be on it whenever I'm in the area. Creative and delicious breakfasts!
