I live on Hilton Head Island, and my husband and I, and his co-workers and friends frequent Dye's regularly. This isn't a restaurant for someone looking for a fancy decor and atmosphere - it's a restaurant for people who love good down-home, made-from-scratch southern and Gullah cooking! Dye runs the place practically by herself, which is why there are no... more

We read the reviews for Dye's prior to arriving in Hilton Head and decided we had to try it. Despite the initial obstacle that our GPS couldn't locate 430 William Hilton Parkway and the darkness of the island at night, we found our way to Dye' s Gullah Fixin's on Sunday, November 29, for the lunch buffet. It's a very... more

First off, we showed up around 11:45 and were greeted with a locked door as Dye decided not to open at her posted 11:30 time. When she finally did open up, we were greeted with a sigh and a halfhearted welcome. The atmosphere was horrible. The sound system was broken, so the music kept on cutting out over and over.... more

My husband, daughter and I enjoyed a true (and truly delicious!) Gullah meal at Dye's Gullah Fixins during our recent Hilton Head stay. After many HHI visits, we finally feel that we have had some of the real native cuisine. The seafood hush puppies were a fantastic appetizer and we loved the Southern fried chicken and Low Country boil, with... more

Everything we tried was excellent. Shrimp and grits, baked chicken with cornbread stuffing. The sweet cornbread with cane syrup was lovely. I would definitely reccommend this place to anyone. (Prices are similar to Outback Steak House, but the food is better) more

This restaurant should be highlighted as a must try. The buffets provide an excellent selection of foods. The chicken was suberb and the seafood excellent. We had fresh catfish and we had the low country boil. Very tasty. The cornbread was the best that I have tasted. The desserts were an excellent topper for a fabulous meal! more

My husband and I went last night - it was so good that we went back there tonight! Had shrimp & grits, crab cakes, crab soup, and their fried chicken. All was wonderful.Wish we had a place like this back home. And Dye is so fun to talk with. Enjoy! more

The restaurant is a bit difficult ot find, but it's worth the trouble. The owner, Dye, is a bit of a character, and the ambience is definitely family style, but the food is as good as it gets when it comes to low country cooking. The chicken is the highlight of the menu - crisp on the outside and tender... more

A review from a friend sent us there. When arrived we found the restaurant closed for a private party (Steve Harvey and entourage were visiting from Atlanta we were told). I went in and asked about the rest of the week etc and the host said well if it's okay with the Harvey party we can seat you over here... more

After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor we couldn't wait to try this restaurant. Absolutely the best Southern cooking around. We went for lunch and it was so delicious that we made reservations for the Friday night buffet which was out of this world. The best Low Country Boil ever. Ms Dye is a most gracious and lovely lady and... more
