real down home cooking

The food was simply amazing. I felt as if I were sitting in Dye's house. I sat and Dye would bring what she cooked today. I had the Low Country Boil and It simply was tasty. The rice and peas were delicious and fresh. Everything was fresh. I wonder if she bought them in the market that same... read more

"Want to go to Dye's house for Sunday Dinner", is the warm and friendly ambiance. If you can't cook country or you're lonely for good, from scratch, home cooking, it is the place to go. Was told the almost $20/person was an off season bargain. Very well seasoned food was basic (fried chicken, beans, black-eyed peas etc.) and not worth... More

Great place nothing fancy which makes the food that much better. Best home style on island. Loved the greens and chicken moist with lite coating

As others have written, this was home cookin' at its best and "like coming home." Dye's Gullah Fixins' is a small hole in the wall kind of place in a small office park/mall on Route 278. Nothing glamourous, in fact, a bit dingy, with some old plastic tableclotes, mismatched flatware, but who cares when the food is amazing. My husband... More

Dye and the girls were very hospitable, but my low country boil was just average and the pork chops were overcooked... Maybe it was an off night...

OK, so Dye dispenses unsolicited parenting advice along with the food, but it was SOOOOOO worth it. It was hands down one of the best meals I've ever had in a restaurant, and that really is saying a lot.

This place made me feel like I was visiting a local who invited me for a nice home cooked meal. The atmosphere is VERY casual so be aware of that. It is family run, and you get that nice personal touch. For five of us we had two orders of the fried chicken with the sides of collard greens, butter... More

You know that feeling you get when your coming home for the first time in a while? Looking forward to feeling welcomed and well fed - that's what it's like here. As soon as we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by Dye and another young lady working there. We were brought glasses of some of the most delicious sweet... More

If you are ever in Hilton Head Dye's is a MUST!! We only wish we were there longer to eat there AGAIN ! We have had the scrumptious pleasure of a buffet lunch and a dinner from a menu! The fried chicken is "to die for"!! The butter beans melt in your mouth! The Mac and cheese like no Other!... More

We tried Dye's based on the recommendation of the Gullah tour guide on the Gullah Heritage tour. We were not disappointed. If you like Gullah food such as shrimp and grits and low country boil, this is second only to Lowcountry Backyard. Dye makes everything herself to order.
