Southern perfection.

If you love southern food, this is where you go. The shrimp deviled eggs were outstanding. We had perfect crab cakes, crab and shrimp stuffed flounder, collard greens, mac and cheese, field peas, and peach dump desert. Be extra nice when trying to make the required reservations, and you may get in.

Came across Dye's Gullah while on Hilton Head Island. The Gullah cuisine sounded very reminiscent of my native Louisiana Creole, so needed to give it a try. It's in a fairly nondescript commercial building that looks like it (or rather most of its tenants) has seen better days. We weren't sure Dye's was even open, but we popped in anyway,... More

Made the effort to get a reservation and drive to the restaurant. They only had fried chicken and fixins for the buffet at $18.99 a head...that would've been the price for my 2 yr old to eat too. We were shocked that they only had chicken when the website promised to much more. We decided to talk it over and... More

I always thought it was strange that on HHI there is not many restaurants that serve up true low country cooking. Look no further. This is true and fresh low county cooking. The fried chicken is heavenly. Be warned - it is hard to find, not a fancy place, and has limited hours, but it is worth it.

We went to Dye's Gullah Fixin's looking for authentic southern cooking and were not disappointed. The service was spectacular, we felt like we were sitting down at someone's home and were served sweet tea and were tried everything on the buffet. It is truly hard to find an experience and food with the care and effort in it as Dye's,... More

I have wanted to go to Dye's Gullah Fixins for years...but I've been afraid to do so. I read the bad reviews and I was just too chicken to try it out. I've walked out of more than one restaurant because I felt they were rude...But my husband talked me into giving it a try this year. I made him... More

Some of the dishes were new to us, but we tried them and liked them. Really enjoyed the authentic Gullah cooking and the service. Not only did we enjoy our experience there, but it appeared that everyone else it the restaurant that evening were really enjoying it all also.

The food was simply amazing. I felt as if I were sitting in Dye's house. I sat and Dye would bring what she cooked today. I had the Low Country Boil and It simply was tasty. The rice and peas were delicious and fresh. Everything was fresh. I wonder if she bought them in the market that same day. My... More

"Want to go to Dye's house for Sunday Dinner", is the warm and friendly ambiance. If you can't cook country or you're lonely for good, from scratch, home cooking, it is the place to go. Was told the almost $20/person was an off season bargain. Very well seasoned food was basic (fried chicken, beans, black-eyed peas etc.) and not worth... More
