Description: The River Room has served delectable coastal-influenced fare to a tremendous following of loyal patrons since 1984.Moderately-priced lunch items include our World Famous Shrimp and Grits, Shrimp Creole and Pecan Chicken Salad served with apples and grapes. The dinner menu features fresh, grilled fish such as Carolina grouper, yellow-fin tuna and Atlantic salmon. Chef specialties include Herb-crusted Grouper, McClellanville Crab Cakes and Twin Filets of Beef with Blue Cheese ButterThe River Room is located in the historic J.B. Steel Building. In 1888 when the J.B. Steele Building opened, it housed two businesses known as the Steele-Moses stores. Downstairs, customers inspected dry goods and groceries displayed on massive hardwood counters, and upstairs they could be fitted for custom-made hats.Today, the building’s history is evident throughout and is enhanced with tasteful nostalgic décor. The dining room extends 50 feet into the Sampit River; its panoramic windows offer expansive harbor views. Nautical and turn-of-the-century antiques are on display, and an intimate bar showcases the restaurant’s wine collection.Children will surely make a beeline for the giant reef aquarium filled with colorful sea life.

Great place just really packed at night and the dinner prices literally double the lunch price even on the same item.

This has got to be the finest restaurant in Georgetown. The Ribeye Oscar is to die for, their clam chowder is the best you'll ever have and they have a delicious Shepard's pie

The day was beautiful, the Kaminski House tour worth every minute, and our lunch here made the visit completely satisfying. My husband had the softshell crab sandwich and I had Caesar salad with fried oysters. We split the bread pudding for dessert (unable to resist it after we saw three orders pass our table!). Everything was delicious, the room cozy... More

After reading what the people from the lands across the Mason-Dixon Line said. I want to say that I have always had the best food in Georgetown. The crab cakes and the steaks ar alway great and always good service.

River Room is obviously a popular joint among both tourists and locals lunching in shirt sleeves. That said we were disappointed in the horrendous service. We didn't wait long for drinks, but our wait to order food was at least 15 minutes and then the wait for simple lunch fare another 30. I ordered the specialty shrimp and grits and... More

My wife had a half filet with crabcake. I had the split filet. The sides were a baked potato and about a spoonfull of vegitables. The portions were small and the the dinner was pricey. The "view" was a river with broken down boats. We asked for medium rare and and got medium steaks. I liked the veggies which were... More

Clean, courteous staff. Four of us in the area went for dinner on Fat Tuesday. One in the party opted for the Gumbo special, everyone else ordered from the menu. All entrees the Shrimp and Grits, Shrimp with tomato cream sauce and the Shrimp and Scallops were awesome. Wine and mixed drinks were very good as well. Although we didn't... More

We visited on a rainy weekday for lunch. The black bean soup is to die for--the best I've ever had. The service was good, the view of the river was interesting. Be sure to check out the lovely planter boxes of pansies outside the door.

Good service and food. Fresh seafood is always a treat for us visiting from the midwest. A pleasant experience. Nice location.

My wife and I went there for dinner on a Saturday evening. The place was filed and we had a brief wait to get seated. Once at the table we had a wait before a waitress finally showed up. We ordered drinks and our dinner selections and then had to wait almost 1 hour before our dinners were served. The... More
