Description: The River Room has served delectable coastal-influenced fare to a tremendous following of loyal patrons since 1984.Moderately-priced lunch items include our World Famous Shrimp and Grits, Shrimp Creole and Pecan Chicken Salad served with apples and grapes. The dinner menu features fresh, grilled fish such as Carolina grouper, yellow-fin tuna and Atlantic salmon. Chef specialties include Herb-crusted Grouper, McClellanville Crab Cakes and Twin Filets of Beef with Blue Cheese ButterThe River Room is located in the historic J.B. Steel Building. In 1888 when the J.B. Steele Building opened, it housed two businesses known as the Steele-Moses stores. Downstairs, customers inspected dry goods and groceries displayed on massive hardwood counters, and upstairs they could be fitted for custom-made hats.Today, the building’s history is evident throughout and is enhanced with tasteful nostalgic décor. The dining room extends 50 feet into the Sampit River; its panoramic windows offer expansive harbor views. Nautical and turn-of-the-century antiques are on display, and an intimate bar showcases the restaurant’s wine collection.Children will surely make a beeline for the giant reef aquarium filled with colorful sea life.

I enjoyed something unique that I have not seen before, a soft-shell crab hoagie. My mother-in-law was delighted with her healthy and fresh fruit and chicken salad. Our service was good and we enjoyed the view.

The volunteer at the Mariner's Museum recommended the River Room as the best place for lunch in Georgetown, and he was right. Four of us had lunch: gumbo, shrimp and grits, and a big ol' hamburger and fries. My gumbo was spicy and just the right amount for lunch. No okra, but still tasty. Two of us had shrimp and... More

Service was great. A little bit of a wait on the food but was worth it. Have a daughter with a soy allergy and they went out of their way to tailor a dish. Rolls and drinks were great. Fun atmosphere. Glad the other place was full.

I asked a local where we should have a seafood lunch and she told us about this place. After a short wait we had a window table overlooking the water. It's really only a so-so view. The fried oyster sandwich and fried fish sandwich were good but the sesame seed hoagie rolls seemed liked they were from the local supermarket.... More

The name says it all! A great place to eat along the river with a beautiful view of the quaint Georgetown waterfront. This restaurant was recommended by one of the local people that we had talked to while walking about the town (Georgetown is well worth a stop if you are passing through on US 17 between Charleston and Myrtle... Restaurant is situated on the Intracoastal Waterway so the view is great. Food was excellent and so was the service. Will definitely return.

Went on a recent home and had lunch with my Mama. As usual, great service, generous portions and at a reasonable price. I always go for the grouper sandwich and it never disappoints. Some of the best views in Georgetown.

After a long day of hiking, I was pretty hungry. My waitress(I think her name was Lauren?) was attentive & friendly. I asked for her suggestion and she told me that the grouper was fresh and hand filleted @ the restaurant; as well as a favorite of her own. I got mine herb encrusted; it was great! Sides of stone... Took friends to Georgetown for their 1st visit. Would not be complete without a visit to the River Room Restaurant. Located right off the riverwalk with a beautiful view of the Sampit River and marina. The shrimp and grits came with a homemade biscuit and it was de-li-cious!
