Chef specialties include Herb-crusted Grouper, McClellanville Crab Cakes and Twin Filets of Beef with Blue Cheese ButterThe River Room is located in the historic J.B. Steel Building. In 1888 when the J.B. Steele Building opened, it housed two businesses known as the Steele-Moses stores. This restaurant sits right on the water where you can watch the fishing boats come and go. Indoor and outdoor dining. Service was great, food was excellent with large portions

We went to this restaurant after visiting a museum in Georgetown, SC. We asked for an indoor table with a view. The restaurant is right on the water and you can see the fishing boats coming and going. They also have outdoor dining. The seafood is excellent! Everyone in our group was very pleased with their dinner, and everyone needed... More

Went there for dinner. Air conditioning was surprisingly weak for a hot and humid night. Staff moved us to another area of the restaurant but it was only slightly more bearable. Hush Puppies were very good as well as the mozzarella vesuvius(?). Black bean soup was not enjoyed, house salads were very pedestrian. Blackened tuna and grouper were enjoyed.

We ate in this restaurant on Aug. 21. The service, atmosphere and location were perfect, but the food was barely OK. We found our food (grilled grouper and stuffed chicken) to be tasteless. The salad and bread were great, but the chef seemed to forget to season our entrees. Over-priced for the quality.

We ate there for the first time on August 14th. People, evidently, rave about this place but we found it to be just okay. We both love seafood and ordered the same entree. The meal was flavorful but the shrimp were definitely overcooked. The service was above average and the staff seemed attentive. The location is great, right on the... More

We had a very enjoyable lunch at the River Room on Front Street. There is a lovely view of the water from almost everywhere in the restaurant. I had a great fried shrimp sandwich and Richard had a bowl of gumbo he says is one of the best he has ever eaten. The prices were very reasonable, especially for being... More

High price for better than average food. I would try the smaller local restaurants nearby to get a better value for your seafood money.

Great service. Food was delicious and not too pricey. Scenery was what made the restaurant so special. We ate here for dinner and had a table overlooking the inlet while the sun set. It was breathtaking.
