Description: The River Room has served delectable coastal-influenced fare to a tremendous following of loyal patrons since 1984.Moderately-priced lunch items include our World Famous Shrimp and Grits, Shrimp Creole and Pecan Chicken Salad served with apples and grapes. The dinner menu features fresh, grilled fish such as Carolina grouper, yellow-fin tuna and Atlantic salmon. Chef specialties include Herb-crusted Grouper, McClellanville Crab Cakes and Twin Filets of Beef with Blue Cheese ButterThe River Room is located in the historic J.B. Steel Building. In 1888 when the J.B. Steele Building opened, it housed two businesses known as the Steele-Moses stores. Downstairs, customers inspected dry goods and groceries displayed on massive hardwood counters, and upstairs they could be fitted for custom-made hats.Today, the building’s history is evident throughout and is enhanced with tasteful nostalgic décor. The dining room extends 50 feet into the Sampit River; its panoramic windows offer expansive harbor views. Nautical and turn-of-the-century antiques are on display, and an intimate bar showcases the restaurant’s wine collection.Children will surely make a beeline for the giant reef aquarium filled with colorful sea life.

The three of us stopped in George Town on the way back from a plantation. We were looking for something to eat when we happened to walk upon this restaurant. The restaurant is at the end of the "boardwalk". We got seated with a river view which was beautiful if you were not facing the factory that was near by.... More

The River Room apparently has been a Georgetown staple for 30 years and was recommended to us by a friend as well as our innkeeper, so our expectations were up. We were also intrigued by their nice selection of craft (micro-brew) beers on the menu, as opposed to the "usual suspects." We were fortunate enough to land a table overlooking... More

We are staying in Surfside, SC, and had dinner here with family. It was a very good experience. The grouper was especially good as were the crab ball appetizers. Service was good and the views of the river were great. Would definitely recommend. Georgetown was about a 30 min drive from Surfside. Nice town to visit.

We are a British family travelling up the coast from Florida to Washington DC. We were very much looking forward to our stay in Georgetown and particularly our planned meal at the famed River Room. While the scenery is great, the wine was nice, the bread tasty and the blue cheese and scallion homemade chips delicious, we were really let... More

Sometimes I just crave fried shrimp and oysters. This is the place to go. Great cold slaw. Kids will like watching the boats on the river and the fish tank. Good family place.

We've visited Georgetown numerous times but it has always been off-season when many of the local shops are closed. This year we vacationed in June, so in addition to dining at the River Room which is our favorite restaurant in the area, we were able to enjoy strolling the river boardwalk and browsing all the quaint shops along main street.... We just had lunch there today. Pretty views of the river from most tables. Open & friendly atmosphere. We both ordered salads - husband Cesar was good & perfectly dressed; me shrimp veg salad was full of vegs as represented and the herb dressing was flavorful AND they removed the shrimp tails, thank you. Our water & tea glasses were... More

What a geat view from this restaurant! I never knew that Georgetown could have so many great restaurants and shops! The River Room is situated on the river... Fabulous sunset views! The seafood is fresh and the atmosphere is quiet. We enjoyed walking along the waterfront as we waited for our table. Kudos!

After a busy day on Bull Island, we drove up to Georgetown, one of our favorite places to visit on the SC coast. Found the River Room, and this was our 1st visit. It was Friday night and the entire area was jumping with people of all sorts. Lucky we were a bit ahead of the dinner crowd, got seated... More
