Description: The River Room has served delectable coastal-influenced fare to a tremendous following of loyal patrons since 1984.Moderately-priced lunch items include our World Famous Shrimp and Grits, Shrimp Creole and Pecan Chicken Salad served with apples and grapes. The dinner menu features fresh, grilled fish such as Carolina grouper, yellow-fin tuna and Atlantic salmon. Chef specialties include Herb-crusted Grouper, McClellanville Crab Cakes and Twin Filets of Beef with Blue Cheese ButterThe River Room is located in the historic J.B. Steel Building. In 1888 when the J.B. Steele Building opened, it housed two businesses known as the Steele-Moses stores. Downstairs, customers inspected dry goods and groceries displayed on massive hardwood counters, and upstairs they could be fitted for custom-made hats.Today, the building’s history is evident throughout and is enhanced with tasteful nostalgic décor. The dining room extends 50 feet into the Sampit River; its panoramic windows offer expansive harbor views. Nautical and turn-of-the-century antiques are on display, and an intimate bar showcases the restaurant’s wine collection.Children will surely make a beeline for the giant reef aquarium filled with colorful sea life.

The River Room may be my favorite seafood place on the S. C. coast, and I have eaten up and down that coast for more than a half century. The place is cozy and intimate, right on Georgetown's river walk. The service is fine, prices are reasonable, and the menu suits me very well. I typically jump on the big... More

My wife and ate here for dinner and really enjoyed it. The Menu is old school with things like Steak Oscar(ribeye steak, topped with crab and hollandaise) and Carolina grouper done three different ways. Let me just say that by old school I mean like a Vintage Mercedes or Porsche. Some things we should never change and this place is... More

Must try the McClellanville Crab Balls. The red snapper was delicious.and a family member had the shrimp and grits and said it was very good.

I'd give this place a higher rating if they took reservations. Food was very good, a little pricey, and service was slow. Located on the river in Georgetown and well decorated. I think the staff tries hard to satisfy. Won't even try coming back on a weekend to wait for a table but wouldn't avoid it either if there wasn't... More

We stopped for lunch here during our drive from Hilton Head to Myrtle Beach. Along the riverfront in the historic section of Georgetown, the River Room was an attractive and busy place to have lunch. We were lucky enough to get a table facing out on the river walk. The paper mill down river only slightly detracts from the view.... More

The three of us stopped in George Town on the way back from a plantation. We were looking for something to eat when we happened to walk upon this restaurant. The restaurant is at the end of the "boardwalk". We got seated with a river view which was beautiful if you were not facing the factory that was near by.... More

The River Room apparently has been a Georgetown staple for 30 years and was recommended to us by a friend as well as our innkeeper, so our expectations were up. We were also intrigued by their nice selection of craft (micro-brew) beers on the menu, as opposed to the "usual suspects." We were fortunate enough to land a table overlooking... More

We are staying in Surfside, SC, and had dinner here with family. It was a very good experience. The grouper was especially good as were the crab ball appetizers. Service was good and the views of the river were great. Would definitely recommend. Georgetown was about a 30 min drive from Surfside. Nice town to visit.

We are a British family travelling up the coast from Florida to Washington DC. We were very much looking forward to our stay in Georgetown and particularly our planned meal at the famed River Room. While the scenery is great, the wine was nice, the bread tasty and the blue cheese and scallion homemade chips delicious, we were really let... More

Sometimes I just crave fried shrimp and oysters. This is the place to go. Great cold slaw. Kids will like watching the boats on the river and the fish tank. Good family place.
