An island institution

Okay, first of all, we've eaten here dozens of times over that past decade--summer and fall...and we keep coming back. McConkey's offers hearty family fare, with large servings and reasonable prices. Service is friendly. Atmosphere is busy, seating is crowded, noise level is high, and the menu... read more

Service is friendly. Atmosphere is busy, seating is crowded, noise level is high, and the menu never changes. None of these are necessarily bad things! Located next to the... More

We LOVE McConkeys ! First place that we hit when we come to the island and we usually go there at least 2 times during our vacation week. We can't say enough how excellent the food is - everything you want a beach vacation meal to be and the service is always the best . Everyone does fried pickles but... More

We have tried the shrimp in every establishment (all five of them!) on the island, and The Jungle Shack does the best job. Big, lightly coated, tender, juicy... just right!

McConkey's has become one of our favorite eating places on Edisto Beach. The food is expertly prepared and properly served, with soups being our favorite. The soup must be HOT, not lukewarm as is found in most places. Chowders are especially wonderful. The atmosphere is casual, perfect for the beach locale, with adequate seating, 7 or 8 inside tables and... More

I had the fish sandwich and fried pickles and the serving of pickles was very large. My husband had the fish and chips and should have asked before hand if those were chips or fries. They were chips. The fish and chips seemed overpriced for what he got.

Lunch was excellent! Fish sandwich and fish tacos, delicious. Fun atmosphere, ate on their all season porch.

The space is small but quaint. Best burger on the beach, especially the pimento burger. Reasonably priced and good service.

The food was okay for fried flounder and shrimp. Was a little put off that the bathroom is in the kitchen, but we went with it. Ordered a bucket of beer near the end of our meal and they brought the check without asking if we wanted anything else. We're not even halfway through the bucket when we are asked... More

I would REALLY appreciate knowing the date and approximate time you visited McConkey's so I can attempt to identify the employee that asked you to leave. Better yet, perhaps you have that employee's name or can describe him? Normally our service is lauded as excellent and I really wish to address any service that is less than kind, expedient and... Decades ago this lot was a Burger King. Good riddance! McConkey's Jungle Shack has some of the best burgers around, let alone on Edisto. Make sure you get the onion rings - crispy, airy coating and the dipping sauce is perfect. A must-visit.

Stopped by for dinner. Shrimp tacos were great. My wife's burger was just okay. Buns were soggy. Waitress made me not want to go back; she acted like our being there was preventing her from doing something else. Never checked on how the food was.

There is NO excuse for bad or careless service. It would help me greatly if you can recall the date and approximate time you were at McConkey's. I will be able to identify your server and address her unprofessional behavior. There is NO excuse for a soggy bun either. If you visit us again, (and I hope you will), please... More
