We booked the restaurant the evening we arrived in Charleston. There were ten in our family group...teens to grandparents. The menu was diverse and interesting with a southern flare. Food, service and ambiance was great. All members of the family enjoyed the evening and we would all go back again.

Mercato has officially closed and has been transformed into the french cafe, Brasserie Gigi. Check it out! Has a very cool bar with appetizers and cocktails, excellent wine list, great food, excellent service! A nice addition to Market Street!

I just discovered via Charleston's newspaper "Post & Courier" that Mercato had closed it doors in January 2014. However, they just reviewed the new French bistro that opened in it's place called Brasserie Gigi. It opened on April 1, 2014 to very good reviews, and I can't wait to check it out!

We had great service and a fun dinner at Mercato. I wasn't sure about having Italian food in Charleston, but the food was really well prepared. They also had a superb wine list. We split some appetizers, including a pizza and some calamari and then I had the gnocci for my entree. I loved Mercato and would definitely go there... More

Stopped in on a busy Sunday night and were pleasantly surprised to get a nice table for two. Overall service was prompt, courteous and efficient. The atmosphere with music and lighting made for easy dinner conversation. Food was good but pricey. The only negative observation is that the brown paper table covering over the linen tablecloth was somewhat tacky.

My husband and I are both Italian. My father was from Italy and my husbands both sets of grandparents were from Italy so we know good gravy (sauce). All I can say is their red sauce is not good. We sat at the bar and had ziti. The bartender was good, I liked the specialty drink "The Italian Job" I... More

Being Italian from New Jersey, I wasn't expecting great Italian in Charleston. We went to Mercato and we're surprised just how good it was. Chicken Parm was tender and full of flavor, pasta was cooked just right. Swordfish was excellent. All in all a great restaurant.

We did Christmas Eve dinner there, with six of us and we had a variety of dishes. Overall, we give it an "average" for the food. The whole yellow tail fish special at $36 was overpriced and nothing special, so we wouldn't have it again. Scallops, spaghetti and meatballs, scampi, pretty much the same comment. The service was very good,... More
