Recommended to us by a vendor in the market for great local food - "Rachel Ray goes there when she's in town!" No big deal. I had a salad with shrimp (asked for boiled ) on it. The shrimp were TINY and the salad meager- not much of a meal at all. My husband got the fried chicken and it... More

In Charleston for my 1st wedding anniversary. Husband and I wanted some local cuisine. We read about Jestine's on the Visitor's Bureau website, liked its history, and gave it a try. Restaurant is small and seating is tight, but there were vacant tables. Our server offered us no introduction and no greeting beyond "What do you want to drink?" I... More

The restaurant was very near our hotel. THe service was good. I had the meat loaf and it was very good. My wife had the fried chicken which was a bit over cooked.

We went here on our first night in Charleston. I ordered their specialty, fried chicken. Frankly, it was average. A bit salty. My wife got shrimp and grits. Again, average. It is ok as long as you don't expect too much.

Spent a week in Charleston enjoying evening meals at high end expensive restaurants and did lunch on the run most days. Found Jestine's by chance for lunch one day and was pleasantly surprised at the food - no frills, just good wholesome portions in a clean, but basic, setting. As a foreigner visiting the area for the first time, I... More

Whiting fish was poorly seasoned. Red rice and okra gumbo was ok. Cornbread was cold and dry. Mac and cheese looked and tasted like it was scraped from the bottom of the pan from last weeks leftovers.

This was close to our B and B so we walked. We would recommend this to someone who wants good southern food for less money. This was recommended by our hostess. She told us it would be crowded but that the line moves fast. It was and it did. It is not fancy. Our table was next to some boxes... More

This place lived up to the hype. Most of us got the fried chicken and we couldn't believe how big the portions were. Next time I'm in Charleston, I'll be back, but maybe for the also famous meatloaf.

We had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon and was very good home cooked southern food. There was about a 15 minute wait, but it was worth it. If you like good home cooked food then this place is the best. We will again eat here and recommend it!

Went to enjoy lunch with family while here in Charleston. This is a casual drop in and the food is Southern homestyle. I ordered meat loaf which was good. Very moist and savory. One of our family ordered the fried chicken. I should have ordered it. She said it was the best fried chicken she'd ever had so I took... More
