When in Rome . . .

We were touring the South and trying to get to as much regional choices as possible. This was a good place to try. We tried fried chicken and gumbo. They were good. Standing in line is more entertainment than a chore. Mid afternoon is quieter.

We had fried chicken it was overdone and had a slight burnt taste. The collard greens did not have any seasoning, very bland. I thought it was expensive for the quality of the food. Thankfully we did not wait in line for this less than appetizing meal. The service was good but we will not return. We visited this restaurant... More

This is a very popular local eatery. Long lines at lunch so we decided to give it a try. The portions are large and the food very average as well as the service. We would not return and would not recommend it to our friends when there are so many other great eating establishments in the area.

My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch and the crowd was still there! Our server was wonderful, our meal was delicious, and we were even visited by an owner who took time to talk to us like long, lost friends! My wife had the Blue Plate special (flounder that day) and I had the pecan crusted fried... More

Enjoyed a yummy dinner at Jestine's and I was just sorry that I didn't get there sooner. I had this restaurant on my list when I visited Charleston in 2008 but didn't make it there and I am really sorry because then I would have had two memories. My sister, mother and I each had a wonderful dinner, they had... More

Everything at Jestine's was fresh and delicious. We loved the pickles they put on the table. My son had the fried chicken and managed to eat the whole plate. So juicy and good! My husband and I had the fried catfish special. Best catfish I have ever had. I also had a side of fried okra, that was outstanding. The... More

This was my first visit to Jestine's Kitchen. I will definitely go back. The fried chicken was excellent (and a lot of it!). The collard greens were delicious. Service was good although the restaurant was packed. A great meal at a local landmark.

During a recent work trip, I decided to seek out some of the highest-praised shrimp & grits in Charleston, South Carolina. Over my 9-day rampage across Charleston, I experienced 11 of the best shrimp & grits restaurants in the area. Jestine’s is a well-known local institution. Friendly service and a nice corner location make it a great place to have... More

My mom and I flew to Charleston for a mini-vacation. We arrived Sunday and Jestine's was an easy walk from the hotel, Historic District Courtyard Marriott. We arrived about 5:30 and were seated promptly. It is a small cafe and thus, tables are not very roomy. The menu had real southern cooking items. I ordered catfish, green beans, fried okra,... More
