This restaurant is very centrally located, with a modern and beautiful interior. As in many Thai places, the menu is pretty large. Egg rolls (veggie) and a tofu and chicken entrée were all very good. We got there very early and actually were in right at 5PM. Service was lightning fast. Music is more modern than traditional. Overall, this was... More

Well I was wrong. My friends wanted to eat dinner at Basil while we were on vacation. I had tried Thai food years ago in my home town and I did not like it. But I gave Basil a try. It was delicious. They also carry bottles of my favorite wine which a lot of places don't. I was very... More

We both really love Thai food and will typically, if in a new town, will seek out a high rated Thai restaurant. While researching restaurants in Charleston I found Basil at 460 King St. listed with fairly good reviews. Went for dinner and found a great parking spot right on King St. just steps from the restaurant. No meter fees... More

We wanted to get away from the overpriced and touristy places downtown and asked a local for a good place. They recommended Thai.. and were we happy we followed up! The food is absolutely fresh and delicious. I had a chicken dish with the cellophane noodles and my girlfriend had the chicken "Basil" dish. Both were perfectly seasoned and cooked.... More

We loved this restaurant with its many options. The food was great and reasonably priced. We could suit my vegetarian husband and my choice of meat at one great place. They do not take reservations but at this time of year there was no wait time.

We visited Basil on a Wednesday evening during school vacation week in April and it was packed, but that didn't impact the excellent service and food. We started with chicken satay and then moved on to a tureen of Tom Kha Gai (a coconut milk soup with sliced chicken and galanga roots), which we followed with Pad Thai and Crispy... More

This restaurant has consistently been awarded best Thai restaurant in Charleston...no wonder. I started with some Thai iced tea and a Tom Kha Gai soup. Tom Kha Gai soup is "sliced chicken breast cooked in coconut milk with galanga roots, lime leaves, lemon grass, button mushrooms, cilantro and scallions".This soup is enough for two people to share. It has the... More

Delicious flavors meld beautifully in this semi-pricey Thai restaurant on King Street. The wrapped fresh spring rolls were a great way to start, followed by a green papaya savory salad (rice vinegar, tomato, cucumber, pepper), and we finished with pad thai with shrimp. An assortment of spiced sauces supplemented the main course, so there were no issues with excessive "heat"... More

Local cuisine in Charleston is wonderful, however we always need a Thai fix when we travel. Basil did not disappoint. We chose the traditional simple dishes: pad thai, basil beef and chicken with vegetables and breathed a sigh of relief with our first bites. Delicious. Later we learned this is the favorite of the locals. Lucky us to have found... More

I always get the pad Thai ..never disappointed. My wife always gets the sweet and sour chicken.. Always very good. Great service each time. Both in mt pleasant and chas locations. For appetizers get the wontons and shrimp or egg rolls. All are very good. We go there for every special occasion and at when it is not a special... More
