Thai is nowhere near the top of my list of favorite cuisines and I ended up here somewhat reluctantly. However, it's a restaurant I'd willingly return to. The crispy duck red curry is world class! Out of the usual historic area; near the Charleston College region. Happened upon it at lunch and locals were lining up outside. Well worth the short wait. Stupendous soups, superlative pad thai. Staff is well informed and professional. Will go back for more next visit; and we're from the west coast where we get good Thai all the time. more

This place served great Thai food! Very authentic tasting. Nice modern atmosphere, the place was packed! So come early or expect to wait. more

we were somewhat disappointed by Basil on our trip to Charleston. our drinks were the one thing that we really enjoyed, we did try a bunch of the specialty cocktails - i think it was the chai martini that stood out the most, very unusual but very good. the service was pretty good, but the food we were a bit... more

We wandered slightly off the beaten tourist path to Basil, which is a fairly long walk north of the main historic district of Charleston (the Market, French Quarter, etc.). The visit was worth it. Basil has a chic decor and numerous servers playing effective zone coverage. The open kitchen offered up our order very quickly and (where appropriate) extremely hot.... more

good, not great, food. have increased prices in recent years. used to be affordable. now, a bit overpriced in my opinion. fun location downtown. always a long wait and they send you next store to spend money at their sister restaurant chai. i really like the cococnut chicken soup if it's still on the menu. i prefer jasmine thai on... more
