Truth to tell, we did not eat here--we wanted to on our last night in Charleston and had looked forward to brisket (always my test for a new bbq joint) and ribs for dinner. We were told that the last customer had just gotten the last of the brisket, but we could get anything else on the menu- the cashier... More

Great place, good food and nice atmosphere. South Carolina BBQ has a little flair with mustard. I enjoyed the chopped Q on a bun, fries are thick and tasty. Wife had a BBQ platter with slaw and enjoyed it.

My husband and I truly enjoyed a pulled pork barbecue plate at Bessinger's. Truly the best I have ever eaten. With baked beans and potato salad, prepared to perfection. The pulled pork was so tender and the sauce couldn't have been better. The best surprise was the huge, battered, deep fried onion ring on my plate. I will definitely visit... More

Dined at Bessingers while staying in Charleston. Living in PA we don't get good barbecues like Bessingers!! All the food was outstanding!! We ate at many places during our stay and this by far was our best stop!! Can't wait for a return trip!!

Ribs were old and dry, chicken was good, sides were OK.. We expected great things and didn't find them here.

We recently ate dinner here while spending the weekend in Charleston. The food was hot and was kept pretty well stocked in all the individual dishes. It was good if you like this sort of low country fair. The baked chicken was good. The gravy for the shrimp and grits was not. The shrimp were very small. The salad bar... More

My fiancé and I went to Bessinger's for the first time tonight. We walked in and there was a buffet. The food was bland, and honestly, gross. The mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese tasted like cardboard. The fried chicken was over-cooked and dry. We only took one trip to the buffet and left. The waitress brought us our drinks... More

Absolutely LOVE this place!! Every time we come to Charleston we always stop at Bessingers. The BBQ is outrageous and we always grab a rack of ribs to take home. The staff is always so friendly.

I want to give Bessinger's five circles, but more about that later. The good news? We went for the Friday night buffet and it was a fantastic deal: $13.95, including iced tea. Yummy barbecued pork, delicious barbecue stew (similar to Brunswick stew), fresh salads, fab collard greens. Lots of tasty desserts too. Customer service was full of southern hospitality and... More

So our hotel recommended this place, so we thought we would give it a try. The place was empty. They don't serve any liquor, so no beer & wings. Everything is Cafeteria style, so no real personal service. My Daughters both ordered Chicken Sandwiches, & they didn't look to great & were average. I had the beef brisket, which was... More
