Best Fried Green Tomatoes In Charleston

We have been to Hyman's several times and have always enjoyed the food but I have become addicted to their fried green tomatoes. They are very busy and it is sometimes hard to get a table there but it is well worth the effort.

The food was fine. There is a big selection. They start you off with a lot - boiled peanuts, hush puppies and coleslaw AND then you get your meal. A normal person can't eat that much and there seemed to be too much wasted.

We understand why people wait in line for this place! Excellent food and friendly service. If we lived in Charleston we would eat here all the time!

My wife has recently taken on a new job at a small family owned business. One of the patients that comes regularly to the practice is from Charleston. It turns out over the Easter Weekend we had planned to visit friends of my wife in Charleston. So Jane, being Jane, told the patient about our upcoming trip. Well she was... More

We actually wanted to go to another place for lunch but a gas main break closed them down so we wound up here. No disappointment though as we started with a terrific Shrimp and Grits appetizer then moved on to our entrees of Stuffed Grouper and the Salmon Medley. The wait staff was extremely attentive and were very informed about... More

We went to Hyman's because I read the reviews on Trip Advisor and had to check it out. Although the line can be long at times, the food was really good and the restaurant has a certain flair with all of the celebrity photos. The hush puppies are absolutely addictive (especially with the Cajun mayo) and the fish is good.... More

Our Family of 8 loved our dinner at Hymans. We started with the Fried Green Tomatoes and grits (yum), boiled peanuts and coleslaw. We ordered the smothered chicken, salmon croquettes, haddock, fried shrimp, mac and cheese and it was all excellent The hush puppies were also very good. Our waiter, Mike, was extremely friendly and helpful and made our first... More

My mother, grandmother and I had heard wonderful things about this place but were very disappointed. The server was nice and they gave away a free app, but everything else was horrible. All of the food was deep fried and tasted like yesterday's oil was used. I asked for broiled shrimp and got fried. The portions were large but the... More

After a long, tedious day of flying to Charleston we chose Hyman’s as our first place to eat. The many positive reviews, found in researching, caused me to put Hyman’s on our list. Tired and hungry, I chose wrongly the bone-filled crispy flounder with the poorly baked potato. A noisy and busy restaurant was not what I needed. A free... More

We have eaten at Hyman's on numerous previous occasions during our visits to Charleston. However, our last two visits fell short of our expectations. On one previous visit, the fried fish we ordered was dry like it had been sitting under a heat lamp. On our last visit our shrimp and fish were swimming in cooking oil. It seems that... More
