Stopped by the general store because they were selling "sweetgrass baskets" for $15.00, WAAAAAY cheaper than any I had seen in Charleston, but read the label, and they were made in Bangladesh! They weren't Gullah baskets, they were knock offs! Shame on you guys!

People think this is just a tourist destination, but they gave great fish. The whole flounder is awesome. If you have options, skip tourist season or your wait will be long.

Charleston is filled with delicious formal restaurants. This one is informal with a zilion autographed pictures of famous patrons. Restaurant is HUGE and just right for families. Helpings are very large and could be shared. Daily fish specials. Downtown area. Enjoy!

While in Charleston we ate at Hyman's. We went early and missed the usually loud dinner crowd (they were arriving as we left). The food was good and service very hospitable. If you are looking for one of Charleston's many culinary "wow" moments there are other more expensive alternatives. However if you want to enjoy a good meal at good... More

Not very good. They took us up many flights of stairs to seat us even tho we are older and I have trouble with stairs. After eating lunch the waitress instructed us to go down a closer flight of stairs, which of course, took us thru their "General Store".., Aka, try to sell them junky stuff. Back to the food,... I was disappointed with our only trip to Hyman's. We go to Charleston once or twice a year and never go to Hyman's because the line is sooooo long. These lines can take 30 minutes to an hour of standing outside watching other people eat through the glass. One day we finally said "Let's give Hyman's a shot. It must... More

After a long day of travel, we stumbled across Hyman's. We were promptly seated upstairs. Although the space was tight, it did have the feel of stepping back in time. If you are only going to try shrimp and grits once while you are in Charleston, Hyman's is the place to do it. Even the neigh sayers in the group... More

Just a block from our hotel we found the prefect dining experience for our needs. Our traveling companions needed to keep kosher and Hyman's serves up freshly made, prepacked meals provided by the local Chabad house, made by the Rabbi's wife. You can choose from brisket, meatballs, chicken or stuffed cabbage. Great matzo ball soup too! As for the rest... More

When you enter the door of Hyman's you are greeeted by one of their friendly host staff which will seat you at a table that will, most likely, have the name of someone famous, that has also indulged at this local Charleston establishment, at the very place you find yourself being seated. The menu is diverse enough for most anyone... More
