We were introduced to Cru Cafe' by an native Charlestonian years ago. Even with a native, one could tell the cafe' had a a snooty "attitude". WHY? They are just cooks and waitresses for God's sake. On the next visit , even with reservations we were made to wait because the manager knew we not natives of Charleston.Seemed strange at... more

Very rainy, blustery evening; too cold for us out on the patio, although there were a few brave souls. Nice cozy interior -- would love to sit at the counter overlooking the kitchen on our next visit! Everything we ordered -- from the mussels to the soup to the main course to dessert -- was amazing; you can't go wrong!... more

We visited the Cru Café on Nov 27 for lunch. We were greeted by a chef/host. He said since we didn’t have a reservation he could only seat us at the bar, he was very impatient and didn’t seem to care if we ate there or not. I thought the bar was charming, it was facing the open kitchen and... more

Walked in for lunch without a reservation and after a short wait were seated on the porch (thank goodness, it was crowded and tight inside). We must have been upwind; the stable didn't send off an odor, and we watched the carriages go by. Had the fried green tomatoes, shrimp BLT, and fried oysters wrap. Everything was AMAZING! Wouldnt hesitate... more

Granted we didn't have a reservation but when we went in there was 2 couples there already 1 with a reservation and the other nothing. The owner or head person didn't care about anybody that was their. He acted like he was the best thing in the world. He had a framed ticket of when the president visited on the... more

We love Cru Cafe's menu. Everything from Chinese chicken salad to macaroni and cheese to fresh local grilled fish, salads, etc. The atmosphere is intimate and the restaurant is in walking distance to the Market Area in Charleston. more

Took friends to Café Cru last night and could not have been more pleased. Everything about this restaurant was perfect, from the atmosphere, to the service and of course the food. My wife had the special Mahi Mahi over coconut curry rice, while I had the Double Cut pork chop over spaghetti squash. Both were cooked to perfection. And the... more

My wife and I were in Charleston for a quick weekend escape. We sat at the kitchen counter and had a great time watching and chatting with the chefs. Despite being very busy, they were turning out wonderful food and letting us taste everything. We had a catfish special that was fabulous, but everything we tasted during our 2 lunches... more

we turned up at 10 am and the place looked uninspiring. Fortunately we had the good sense to go back when it was opened and thank goodness we did. We had a plane to catch and were lucky to get a table. Our final meal in the US was absolutely delicious. Thank you Tripadvisor and all those that take the... more

Cru Cafe was recommended by some local people we met while in Charleston for business trip. Located in a converted house, the service our large party received was excellent especially considering that it took forever to decide on both the wine and food orders. Our server (forgot her name) was more than patient with our group! Wine selection was great... more
