Refreshingly Unpretentious

G&M is the first place I go to when I am in town. This charming and unassuming hole-in-the-wall is easy to miss but worth the hunt. They serve french cafe-style cuisine that makes me feel like I am back in Paris. From their Croque Madam to their Boulibase, I have never had something I didn't enjoy... read more

I tried this cafe twice on my five day stay in Charleston. Loved it so much that I wish I did it earlier in my stay. Great croissant and breakfast plate of Baguette, cheese, fruit bowl, and ham. French press coffee is excellent and the cafe offers free refills with a meal. Price was reasonable. The place is small with... More

My husband and I had lunch here last Saturday. We were surprised by the size of the restaurant when we first walked in and the fact that it was all counter type seating; however, to us, it added to the authentic cafe atmosphere. The restaurant is a long, narrow area with all counter seating, with maybe around 30 seats. It... More

We were told by friends to stop here on our way through Charleston. It is their favorite place to eat in Charleston and has been for 20+ years. Unfortunately, our experience wasn't very good. First, we were given the worst seats in the place. We literally sat looking into the kitchen. It was the only view from our place at... More

We were told by many people to go there. We went for breakfast. There was a limited menu. We all ordered a ham and cheese croissant which was very good. The French press coffee was excellent! I wouldn't recommend it for breakfast.

Friendly staff with very reasonably priced items. Food is very good at bargain prices and wine and beer are available as well. Highly recommended.

A cozy, welcoming place to eat; staff was very energetic; some of the most reasonable prices in town. Enjoy a glass of wine here, also.

This place is a find. For less than $10 you get a very tasty lunch which included salad, patè and a glass of wine. ALL very good. The place is small and you eat wherever they place you, but still worth it! A great find….

The atmosphere and idea around this small and interesting location have a potential. Reason why we walked in after hearing some good buzz about this place. But now let's talk about what matters: 1 food and 2 service. About 1: French Onion soup: poor portion, cheese was not great, one piece of crostini, barely warm when served. Croque Baguette: I... This restaurant was tucked away in a small building on Broad St. The "tables" were more like eating at a bar which did make you feel like you should be more social, but the folks near us weren't really. They had several choices for vegetarians and even vegans, including a lovely vegan escargot using mushrooms instead of snails. We thought... More
