The place was booming and there was a 40 minute wait but it was well worth it. My wife had the she-crab soup as an appetizer and, as always, I had a taste. Fantastic. Had the Charleston Nasty, a fried chicken biscuit covered with what may have been the best gravy I've ever tasted. I would highly recommend it.

We tried to check out this locals favorite a few times upon visiting Charleston but there is always a long wait, and I can be very hungry in the morning!! On an early Friday we caught a perfect window, and after getting a table it was clear immediately what all the fuss is about! Outstanding food, drinks, and service! Service... More

Ate breakfast and you could shoot a canon through the place. I was a little worried but didn't need to be. Had a special, poached eggs on cornbread with a fired chicken gravy. Better than Momma ever made. So good I returned for lunch with three friends. We all enjoyed it. Service was top notch.

Pros: Quaint restaurant and atmosphere; Food was well cooked and seasoned. The shrimp & grits.. shrimp was medium sized and not overcooked. Sautéed mushrooms & bacon.. ummm... My mother had the red snapper.. nice and tender. Cons: parking

This place is small but well worth the wait. The outside shaded patio and drink to go window makes the wait much easier. I had The Charleston Nasty Biscuit - real name - it was amazing I didn't eat for the rest of the day.

Staff was courteous and we had nice conversation with a fellow patron seated at the next table. Even on a hot and humid evening, the somewhat friendly hostess made it clear that waiting patrons were not to wait inside. Be prepared for a wait but the food was very good. Enjoyed a nice evening stroll afterwards.

We visit Charleston every couple of years, and never miss this place. Good down home southern cooking. Great food can be simple and delicious if done right-and they really know how to do it right!

We got there early on Sunday morning and snagged a table outside in the shade near the fans, so it was quite lovely even for July. Service was efficient and food was great. I had salmon & potato cakes topped with perfectly poached eggs. The pastries looked great, but I was stuffed. I would definitely return.

Wait was short, and they do take reservations. Food was delicious Southern cooking (shrimp and grits, jalapeño hush puppies). Servers were efficient and enjoyable to talk to.
