A find for brunch

This is a pretty, quiet downtown restaurant with a superior brunch menu and good service. We happened on it and were pleasantly surprised.

Visiting Charleston for the first time. Asked at the visitor center for a good place to eat dinner. They recommended Virginia's on King. By far the best dinner we had on this trip. We are not seafood eaters so I got the chicken & dumplings & a side of Mac-n- cheese. My husband got the fried chicken dinner. Great comfort... More

The reviews we read were so good, perhaps our expectations were too high, or maybe we just hit a bad night. Regardless, it was overall a disappointing experience. The restaurant was all but empty at 7:30 pm on a Thursday night. The young waitress was friendly but obviously did not have much to do, deciding to fill our evening with... More

I should have listened to the other reviews, but today (1/22/16) was a cold, wet, rainy day and we were killing time before J's Charleston Fashion Week practice, so we went shopping on King Street and hit Virginia's for lunch on the way back to Hyatt House. My sake bloody Mary was bloody awful. Too much spice and not enough... More

While staying at the Francis Marion Hotel, across the street and down just a few steps, had lunch at Virginia's. No bloody mary since no liquor license, but mimosas terrific. Two of us had shrimp po-boy and fried oyster po-boy. Both very tasty with succulent, well-prepared shrimp and oysters, bread very fresh, and sweet potato fries. Linen napkins, well-appointed tables... More

I'm a health nut and a vegetarian... So comfort food does not work for me, but it does for my daughter, on a college visit to Charleston. stunning oil paintings on the walls, and a menu I could work with. our sweet waiter brought over a free sampling of broccoli cornbread). I had a healthy salad and a sweet potato... More

I've had dinner & brunch here and I WOULD NEVER GO HERE FOR DINNER AGAIN. The food is horrible during dinner, it's over salted, the she crab soup has too much sugar in it and the cream sauces have no flavor. BRUNCH IS WONDERFUL. I only go here for brunch, their shrimp benedict & fried chicken are great. They also... More

In a city with many excellent restaurants, this rates very average. On New Year's Eve lunch, they were out of one of their appetizer staples, pimento cheese. The jambalaya was lukewarm and very "run of the mill". We had great service and reasonable prices but the kitchen get this one three stars out of five.

First time visitors and we were not disappointed. I read the reviews but given this is Charleston, if your food isn't good you don't last long. Fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans was heavenly. A good sized breast, leg, and thigh were to much for me to get down but I did my best. My son had the... More
