Casual with outstanding views and very good food

We were on Block Island and wanted a casual place to get fresh fish. Multiple people suggested The Oar so we tried it. I showed up with my service dog and was asked to sit on the lawn "with all the other dogs" Even though it was quite chilly, we sat and waited... and waited... and waited... Never got served and just felt bad about the whole experience.

The food here is incredible! We are here twice during our first trip to the Island and will absolutely be back again. You have a great view of the Salt Pond, ample outside seating, and they make amazing Mudslides. There can be a decent wait because they get busy, but it's well worth it.

The view is the best.... you even forget about the food and hunger. The food is good also (traditional island food) and the stauff is very nice. Grilled scallops were amazing.... I will remember this for all the life. If I will ever have the chance to visit again BI, I will definetevely take dinner there!

The Oar is an island classic. Decorated with oars that have been painted by islanders and visitors since the 70's... There are now hundreds of them, and they are most special to the people who painted them. Then, there is the location: it is without a doubt the best place in New Harbor, to have a great breakfast or lunch,... More

The Oar, with its 800 some hanging oars, is so popular, expect to wait, no matter when you go. The manger can be abrupt, but he does an incredible job moving both food and people in a small space. The food is good basic food. Their burgers and fries are great and they have a good sushi bar. Be sure... More

They are particular with their rules, but they are for the benefit of all customers. So humor them. Best place to be on the island in a rain storm. Settle in and call a taxi when leaving. Fun cornhole while waiting and they serve you drinks out there.

The service at this place is so awful, I would never go here again. Our waitress, Roberta, was so uninterested in us it was insulting. After her rude attitude reached a climax, we told the Manager, who identified himself as 'George - the GM', he was even more rude. We were so disgusted it ruined our trip to Block Island.... More

Best restaurant on the island. Great burgers. Fresh sushi. Many vegetarian choices. Excellent bar. A view second to none. Open for lunch and dinner. No complaints. Can't wait until spring,

can't beat the view especially if you sit at the outdoor bar with more than a 180 degree vista of the harbor. All the food and drinks are good to very good; our favorites are the peel and eat shrimp, rice and beans, salads. The one down side is the wait which once took 2 hours. I'm not sure what... More
