Had great service from our waiter and while the food was very good, it could have been great had there not been so much raw garlic. I had the oyster appetizer which while the oysters were excellent, the sauce was laced with garlic and the spinach was overpowered with raw garlic. I had the mahi tacos with were excellent too,... Nice to have a locally owned place that is delicious and utterly reliable. The food choices are unique, seasoned and flavored to perfection. Service is decent and atmosphere lovely. The only thing I've ever gotten there that I didn't like was the gator and that is not because it was poorly prepared, but I think because it didn't appeal to... More

We split a Portobello Enchilada as an appetizer. It was really good with large slices of Portobello and a tasty chilli sauce. I had crawfish calamari tacos. I picked it apart, because the crawfish and calamari were excellent, but the fajita and other fillings overwhelmed the taste of the calamari and crawfish. I definitely recommend trying these items. The service... More

This is a little bit of a step up as to some of the other local restaurants downtown. We ordered a nice bottle of wine. The menu is something you would find in New Orleans...a nice change. We tried the voodoo shrimp and grits and the alligator bits. Both were good. Needed a bit more spice for me, so added... More

This is our favorite restaurant to go to when at State College. It is probably impossible to get in on a football weekend, that is why we go up mid-week and make it a golf trip! I always get the almond crusted chicken with amaretto sauce. They used to serve it with parsley potatoes (which I miss) but it now... More

My husband and I try different restaurants every time we are in State College. Spats was a very nice surprise. There is a diverse menu with I enjoyed the VooDoo BBQ shrimp, my husband enjoyed the duck, and we enjoyed the New Orleans flair. The staff was very attentive, one of our favorites in State College.

I've been to Spats on several occasions, and I have never been disappointed. Recently I invited business colleagues to dinner there, and everyone enjoyed the experience. While in town, we went to several other restaurants and wished we had returned to Spats instead. For tapas, I recommend the Cheese Board Sharing Plate, the Shrimp and Scallop Cake, and the Voodoo... We debated all the State College choices for dinner for my mother's 80th birthday. After looking at reviews and based also on past expereince we chose Spats. Very glad we did, had a great meal and very good service. There were seven of us and we ordered wine, several tasting plates, and then dinner. I had the featured duck and... More
