I've been to Spats on several occasions, and I have never been disappointed. Recently I invited business colleagues to dinner there, and everyone enjoyed the experience. While in town, we went to several other restaurants and wished we had returned to Spats instead. For tapas, I recommend the Cheese Board Sharing Plate, the Shrimp and Scallop Cake, and the Voodoo... We debated all the State College choices for dinner for my mother's 80th birthday. After looking at reviews and based also on past expereince we chose Spats. Very glad we did, had a great meal and very good service. There were seven of us and we ordered wine, several tasting plates, and then dinner. I had the featured duck and... More

My wife and I tried this place for the first time and we both enjoyed it. We thought the shrimp and scallops with creamy grits was excellent. There is a modest wine list at reasonable prices. A funky ambiance with a mature crowd.

I'd never been to Spats before but decided to try it last Friday night. Got a table for 4 and was wowed by the menu. We had the calamari appetizer and the short rib spring rolls with the cajun mustard and they were both fantastic. We continued to dip our bread in the mustard it was so delicious. My husband... More

It's a little different for State College, which makes it fit in perfectly. Sitting above the legendary Rathskeller, the food is cajun and creole, with a variety of other styles, too. Hot and cold tapas were a nice start---I suggest the charcuterie plate which was andouille sausage, alligator sausage, prosciutto, duck, cheeses, olives and more. $20, fed the table, but... More

This is our favorite place for a nice evening out in State College. The atmosphere is relaxed and adult (which is to say- no hordes of drunk undergraduates here) and the service is always excellent. The food is usually great, although we have been disappointed once or twice. Our experience has been that it’s best to order the special of... More

We had dinner at Spats Cafe & Speakeasy to celebrate our son's graduate school graduation. We really wanted it to be a special dinner for our celebration. We love New Orleans style food, but weren't sure about authentic style food in State College, PA. I have to say our food was excellent. We had appetizers, entrees, dessert, and cocktails. All... We have dined at Spat's several times having very good service and great food each time. The location is easy to get to with ample on street or garage parking within walking distance. I really like the Cajun cooking style and flavors and they capture it very well here. There are several menu selections which are not spicy if you... More

Traveling in State College for the first time. Read the recommendations and headed to Spats for some Cajun cooking. The Hot Pepper pasta with crab was fabulous, the crepes bananas foster fabulous and the barman who served me, Mike, was a sweetheart. Make a point of visiting Spats if you're in the area you will not regret it. I'll be... More

We were in State College for Arts Fest on a Saturday and needed to find a place for dinner. Knowing that most restaurants would be jam packed, we went on Open Table to find a restaurant that accepted reservations. Spats was one of the few offered so we took a chance and made a reservation. So glad we did! I... More
