Living in the area, we stop by Rey Azteca several times per year, they still put forth a quality product each time we visit. -Atmosphere/Service- The atmosphere is colorful and there is artwork and decoration through most of the restaurant, not so much as to be too busy or to take away from the experience, however. There is a section... More

This restaurant is out of town from State College, and believe me some days you want that in a busy college town. It isn't far, just out by the mall, but far enough to escape some of the crush on the crazy busy days in town. This is our vote for best tex/mex food in town, with it's sister location... More

This is definitely a big step up from chain mexican restaurants. The ingredients aren't the freshest, like you would get at an upscale mexican place, but it is State College, so this comes closer than most places. You really do get a lot for what you spend, which is not that bad at all.

The food is pretty typical chain Mexican food, but it still satisfies the craving. Burritos are pretty good. The tortilla chips you get served by default are pretty mediocre and the 'salsa' is runny and flavorless, but hey, at least it is free. The shrimp that I ordered in the burrito was cooked very nicely, however. The servers are all... More

I LOVE Mexican food and this is probably the best Mexican food in State College but it's not very good. I tried the larger sample platter so I could experience everything. I was really disappointed with everything on my plate. It is almost authentic Mexican but I think they got scared and left out the flavor and spice. They have... More

The food is excellent. I have now eaten here three times and have yet to be even the slightest bit disappointed. The chips and salsa are outstanding. The food selection is very good. The service was excellent. The prices are pretty good. The restaurant itself was clean inside and out. The atmosphere is a mixed bag as it is a... More

If you appreciate Mexican folk art, Rey Azteca is worth a visit to see the beautiful carved and gaily painted chairs and booths. There are many oil paintings on the walls as well, so it's easy to get in the mood for Mexican cuisine. As mentioned, the large basket of chips arrived warm on both of our visits, and the... More

We were here for an early Saturday night supper. We didn't even finish the salsa & (warm) chips when our meal came. We liked the combo dinners where you get 2-3 items so you don't have to get just burritos or just tacos- unless you want too! Great selection of vegetarian dishes. Ample servings and food is hot (not overly... More

Some things are authentic! Their cheese sauce that comes as a topper on things, is off the hook awesome. You will remember the taste until you get it again. The Guacamole used has fresh avocados in it along with other fresh ingredients also making it insanely good. I order there Supreme burrito or tex burrito every-time and I'm never disappointed... Not authentic I haven't tried other restaurants that serve Mexican food up at state, but I will continue my search for the real stuff here. It's a few steps up from Taco Bell. They probably use grade b beef not d but the price leap is huge. If you order something with cilantro tell them to go easy on that.... More
