Very Irish place to go

Being Irish, I like the Ugly Oyster. The décor is wonderful, and it definitely has a good Irish atmosphere. My Irish relatives have all enjoyed visiting the UO. It's more a place for drinks and socializing than for a gourmet meal. A lot of locals seem to hang out there and it gets a little crowded... read more

Food is never really good, usually over seasoned. If your not well known with the staff you'll probably wait for service. Doubt I'll go again.

This is a place that you would want to come more often. If not for the oysters, you definitely come back for some good beer on tap that the owner gets through exclusive partnership. The place is decorated in such a manner that it makes you feel comfortable and at home. The owner is awesome and most likely will stop... More

very good local bar restaurant gets very busy at dinner time so make reservations. not a large place. food is very good and cooked to order. staff is long term and they recognize and interact with customers with excellent service. atmosphere and design is of Irish pub and feels authentic as we have been to Ireland. some tables very small... This is a favorite spot to grab a bite or to have a full meal. Lot's of fresh seafood, great crab cakes, oysters, mussels....etc. Also they have a great filet mignon for an even better price. Lots of locals visit so make sure you have reservations on the weekend or go late afternoon for an early dinner. The furnishings came... More

My wife had a craving for Crab Legs and I was reluctant to go to the Red Lobster. So I did a search for them and located The Ugly Oyster. We arrived there around 7:00 PM. I was dismayed to find that their menu was mostly seafood and very limited for a person like me who cannot eat sea food.... More

The Ugly O is a decent Irish Pub in downtown Reading. It might be a more regular stop on our list if the kitchen was open a bit later on event nights in town. The beer is good, the atmosphere is good and the food is no better than just OK. Fun place ... just not special.

This was our first visit to Reading, PA, and we didn't hear a lot of good comments on the food scene. We were pleasantly surprised at the places we found. As my wife put it, "We didn't have a bad meal the whole time in Reading!" We stopped at the Ugly Oyster with friends on our first night there. We... More

I've been to Ireland and this is as close as you'll get in this area. Great authentic food and atmosphere. Excellent beers on tap and in big bottles. Very knowledgeable staff about the beers too. It might sound crazy but after you've tried the more traditional Irish foods, try the wings! They're amazing! Some of the best I've ever had.

If you like bar food this is the place for you. The restaurant is on the small size, so make a reservation or be prepared to wait. The stuffed pretzel with crab meat for an appetizer is a must. Fish and chips are very good and so are the fried oysters. Other guests told us the burgers are excellent. Just... More
