Headed Upstairs

What a neat place! My son and I saw the sign from the sidewalk and discovered a narrow stairway leading to the second level restaurant. I think Las Velas means the candles in Spanish (not sure) but I didn't see a single candle. The wait staff was very nice but seemed a little overwhelmed so... read more

Stopped at this Market Square restaurant after work on a Thursday evening for a drink and dinner. Only six tables other than our table was occupied. Could not get waited on! A group of servers gathered at the bar were having a great chat session. After 15 minutes and no wait staff, my husband got up and approached the group... More

I was touring Pittsburgh and I was craving Mexican so I picked this restaurant located in the beautiful Market Square area in Downtown. The food was just ok. I was not impressed with the food at all. The guacamole dip did not taste like what a guacamole is supposed to taste like. Ditto for the 4 cheese enchiladas with the... More

Located above market square which is nice. Food was mostly good but nothing to write home about, though one dish which was prepared with tequila was totally drowned in it and the alcohol was not burned off properly which really ruined the dish. The service was was willing but not so much able.

I am a Pittsburgh native. I have been fortunate enough to travel the world. I have dined in many restaurants in the past 30 year. Las Velas is by the worse food and service and I have ever experienced. To begin we patronized this subpar establishment on a Tuesday evening. The dining area was less than half full. After we... We visited Las Velas on a Sunday around 1PM. There were only 3 or 4 tables occupied, and we were able to be seated by the window. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor, which provides nice views of Market Square. We noticed our table was slightly dirty after sitting and our waitress wiped it down promptly. We ordered... I am a huge fan of Mexican cuisine and always ready to try a new restaurant. I have been going to Las Velas in Market Square for about a year now, usually 3-4 times per month. This is, by far, my favorite place for Mex. Very authentic - they make all their own stuff including chips (extra crunchy) and salsa... More

This restaurant overlooks Market Square, which is now decorated for the holidays. Decent food and drinks. The evening we went (11/28), there was a table of about 12 by the windows who were very drunk and very loud, so that took away from our experience a bit. (Family with two kids under 8) My husband and I split the Velada:... More
