As fresh as fresh fish can get in the Burgh

This place is awesome! The bustling market and fresh fish make the scene lively but it's casual dining. The sushi is way too good for a non port city! I'm sure the other fish items are killer too!

This is the obvious place to go. It's a very casual place inside a super fish market. Line is long at lunch, but worth the wait. You can take out your sandwich (fish, soft-shelled crab) or take your tray to the second floor and find a table.

If you like seafood, then you must stop at this amazing seafood market. Located in the Strip District, the market is fun to browse and look at the large selection of seafood – from live, to freshly cut, to frozen. We don’t live in Pittsburgh, but if I did – this would be my go to place for seafood.

The quality of the food in this establishment is one of the best that I've had in the Pittsburgh area. It's definitely more of a marketplace type atmosphere, which is very typical of the strip district area. The seafood gumbo is definitely the best that I've had anywhere.

In the mood for seafood, my family decided to take the 30 minute detour to eat here. It was worth every second of the trip. First off the market this kitchen is in adds so much flair to the visit and I think helped add to the freshness of the meal. We got the cod sandwich, crab cakes and lobster... More

Food was good and reasonably priced. Place was definitely something to see. Parking was a challenge, and so was the seating. My husband has mobility issues and the only place to eat is up an entire flight of stairs - no elevator. That really made things difficult for us and will keep us from returning in the future.

The Wholey family has had this fish market for decades. They added a serve yourself restaurant and seating some time ago. The standard is the fish sandwich with coleslaw and fries. It is enough for two. The smelts are also excellent. Be prepared to wait at lunch time as the line is quite long.

My wife had the soft crab sandwich & I had the 4 piece chicken meal, both were very good. After eating we walked through the store / restaurant. The fresh seafood offerings were outstanding. There are tanks containing live lobsters, striped bass & rainbow trout from which to choose. If desired your selections can be filleted right before you.
