Historic dining

I'm told the Temperance House is under new management and it shows, all in all in a good way. I hadn't been there in many years, so I didn't have very high expectations for the food. Wrong. My scallops were excellent, the side of spinach nicely done. High marks were given for the short ribs... read more

We chose the Temperance House for a private party to celebrate my father's 90th birthday on January 16, 2016. We have been going there for many years, but had not been there since their reopening last year. Melissa Lewis worked with us on every detail, from the table location and setup, to recommendations for a florist and local baker. Our... More

Just what Newtown has been needing – New American instead of Italian; a neighborhood bistro/tavern with well-made food. This is a lovely old building in a historic and now upscale town. It was once devoted to temperance, but no longer. We were there for a weeknight dinner after Christmas. There was a “tavern menu” of small plates plus a regular... More

We decided to try this restaurant since it recently re-opened and we wanted to dine at a nice restaurant for Christmas eve. Service was practically non-existent from our server who always seemed to 'forget' about us and rarely gave us a smile. The menu was a 'special' menu that DID NOT include prices...pretty sneaky if you ask me since there... More

I attended a dinner at Temperance House recently with a large group of girlfriends. Despite it being a busy night at the restaurant, we were accommodated and well taken care of throughout our meal. The entree prices were a bit high for the portion/items, but the food was good and the service was friendly and efficient. A member of staff... More

To start off with, I want to make it clear that the food was fabulous and reasonably priced. Now as for the young lady that 'attempted' to wait on us was forgetful and very slow. Two of us arrived to the restaurant early so we ordered drinks at the bar. After we were seated, when our waitress came to the table... More

After leaving another very bad hotel in town at 10pm I walked a couple blocks down the street and went into the Temperance House in hopes of finding a room. I was greeted by Bobby, the bar manager. He immediately found me exactly what I asked for in a room. Since it was to be a very busy weekend, I... More

Tried the recently re-opened restaurant. It was nice to be back in the place. As far as décor, they have not changed anything inside. I guess this ok, but was hoping for something. As for the service, I could FEEL the good intentions of the staff and that they want to offer great service. With time and experience hopefully that... More

We were told the Temperance House had been recently re-opened w new ownership. I had lived in the area some 30 years ago and returned for a family event. Staying at the Temperance House brought good memories of the history of Bucks County. The hotel staff are sincerely friendly and cheerful. Our room had the marks of a well worn... More
