Description: During renovations, workers found in the floor beams a signed inspection...
During renovations, workers found in the floor beams a signed inspection stamp--November 5, 1890--with the name of tobacco inspector John J. Jeffries. We named the restaurant after him. We’ve designed our menu based on local, seasonal, sustainable and organic agriculture and delicious recipes. Please join us and taste the difference of local farm-to-table sustainable cuisine in one of Lancaster's best fine dining restaurants. As the Chefs and Owners of John J Jeffries, we believe you will find our passion for supporting local businesses and preserving the land we live on, to be contagiously obvious in how we run our restaurant. All of our meats are raised locally, confinement-free on fresh green grass pastures. No hormones, antibiotics, steroids or forced-fertilization occurs. Our produce is local organic or chemical free. We use local grass fed cream, butter and eggs. We also provide sustainable seafood and support sustainable fisheries.

We live in Lancaster and frequent many of the fine restaurants. This is one establishment to which we will not return. When I pay the price for fine food, that is what I expect. If you want a large portion of grisly meat and a scoop of mushy stuffing and potatoes, you can eat the same meal at a local... More

The food was so impressive - flavors that we never would have imagined putting together and it all worked. Sergio, our server, knew his stuff! He guided us through the menu to help us choose items. It was our 5th anniversary and they surprised us with a glass of champagne. The chairs were comfortable. Tables were far enough apart that... More

Great food and service, an excellent up-market choice in downtown Lancaster. Great for seafood, beef, continental fare, and a nice wine list too.

We ate twice during our stay, the food was over the top good. The service was second to none, our server was Kim both nights, what a gem. The atmosphere is just great, nice art work all around. This is a must for fine dining in Lancaster, PA.

Six of us went to this restaurant on a Friday night with high expectations from the previous reviews. We ordered several appetizers including the steak tartare, fried green tomatoes and a salad to share around the table. None of them had much flavor and only the fried green tomatoes were interesting. Most of our table ordered the scallops bim bop... More

My husband took me here for my birthday. It was a wonderful night. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was romantic. I would highly recommend going here. They also gave us complimentary champagne and dessert because of the occasion. Wonderful evening to remember. He got the steak and I had the chicken. We hope to return soon.

The food is very fresh and the flavour combinations are original and delicious. The service was excellent: fast and very polite, we especially liked the complimentary tasters brought to the table. Both the small plates and large plates are lovely but be warned the portions are very large so if you have a small plate for starter, like we did,... More

Booked a dinner here with my wife. We ordered the Cheese Plate as an appetizer. I got the Cape May Point Trap Caught Porgie Jim Bim Bop with Shrimp, my wife got the strip steak. It was tough to decide, so many things sounded good. Everything we got was excellent. My entree was an explosion of flavor, a true experience.... More
