Went here for dinner on the weekend. Staff were very friendly and more than willing to take orders. Food was great, with big portions. I was unable to finish all of mine, but still enjoyed it! And veges are on the menu! Hello veges! Great little café for the whole family and very affordable.

Have been to Essen quite a few times over the years and always good value. Huge portions. Friendly staff. New menu got us back in. Some items of old remained but a few pleasant changes. Always have good specials worth a try too. As food portions are so big u either need to go entree and main or main and... More

Since our fav restaurant closed down last January we have been in limbo. I like a restaurant that has vegies and mash potatoes on the menu, Know what I mean? My stepdaughter took my husband to lunch here and he came back raving about Essen. Last night I got taken there for dinner. Yes, I AM NOW RAVING ABOUT IT.... More

Meeting friends for brunch. Booked a table for eight. Reservation staff cheerful. Not sure what to expect from this restaurant on Queen St. Not in a mall or residential area. I had The Lot for $15 eggs, turkish toast, tomato, bacon, hash brown and mushrooms. Substantial serving, well cooked. Others had raisin toast, cinnamon toast, turkish toast and jam. Coffee... More

Walked in to a beautiful garlic smell in the air which encouraged me to order pasta boscaola. I was very much looking forward to it, but I was very disappointed! The pasta was cheap dollar bag pasta and way over cooked! The sauce was runny and floury and just really bland! I have had way better from my home kitchen... More

Arrived to Essen for dinner, encouraged by TripAdvisor reviews. Must admit at first I thought we weren't in the right place, at least in the dark it looked and felt like a shopping centre shockingly yellow diner. Food was very good with huge portions none of us could finish. Although service was friendly, the waitresses seemed unfamiliar with the menu... More
