Yes we were lulled into this by the word hidden tea room. I wish we had left it hidden. The cafe was upstairs and was empty. We tried to sit by the window but were advised by the unpleasant owner that those tables (which were set the same as the one he made us sit at) were for meals only.... More

Saw a sign for 'The Hidden Tearoom' and was intrigued as it sounded quaint. We took our seats on a mishmash of dated garden furniture and were instantly sprung upon by the owner who seemed most hostile to the idea that we had visited his tearoom just for a cup of tea. We were rudely informed that if we only... More

Easily the most disappointing and overpriced 'cream tea' we have eaten. Do not be persuaded by 'a local' recommending this as a 'hidden gem, best in Castleton'. Hidden it may be but that is all.

Had the misfortune of eating there today. Food was over cooked and over priced. Salad was wilting. Proprietor was horrible, pushy, insulting and bitter. So many nicer places in Castleton we could have eaten, which probably didn't smell dirty either. Upset my girlfriend and put a dampner on the day.

Revolting in every respect. Quite easily the worst cafe I have ever had the misfortune to visit. I suggest you google 'dollys castleton food hygiene' and read the horror story of the disgusting evironment this rude man keeps and serves food.

The man running this place can be extremely friendly and the beef burgette I had was absoutely wonderful. Be warned though I think the owner might treat some people differently and may not want to serve them but he was very friendly to us and I think it you are nice to him you get good service in return.

If you like your afternoon tea served with a large slice of unwelcome and a pot of distaste to wash it down, look no further. Indeed, if you enjoy the concept of being insulted and made to feel uncomfortable, this could be the place for you! Perhaps, you are huge fans of Fawlty Towers and would like the experience at... Firstly, this is definitely not in CA, it is in Castleton in the Peak District in the UK. It would be a shame if the geographical mislabelling had a detrimental effect on what is an excellent tearoom. It's appearance is slightly eccentric and bordering on the twee and the chef/proprietor has a slightly disshevelled look to him so we were... More
