The Waterwheel Inn was built in the late 1700s. It is steeped in the industrial history of Cornwall as it was once a tin smelting house and then involved in clay drying. It is set in a beautiful wooded valley next to St Austell's White River and just 10 minutes walk from the town. The restaurant has been recently refurbished and is elegant but informal with exposed granite walls, oak floor and a log fire for cold winter evenings. We serve unpretentious, plentiful, freshly prepared meals including a 2 and 3 course menu for £13.95/£15.95, main meals from £9.50 and an a la carte menu with fresh local fish and seafood specials, plus extra mature chargrilled steaks.

Great Food and Really nice place.

Really good food with a great choice for all tastes. Would definitely return when passing. Much better than pub style food, although hospitality was as you would like in a pub. Represents great value for money.

We ate here as a family twice, and the food was always very nice, the portions were generous, and it was all very well cooked. There is a lovely relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant, well worth a visit.

Great welcome and cosy clean modern room.its obvious how much work the owners have put. Into the old building and t.urned it into a fine place to stay.but the best part is the food.mostly locally sourced and cooked to a standard we have only experienced in London and Milan .a great choice of dishes so well presented.

This is the second time we have eaten here, the other occasion being a year earlier. Both times we have gone for the 3 course set menu, and both times the food has been excellent. It is also served at a nice pace so you can enjoy each course at leisure. We have been both times on the recommendation of... More

My rating is only 4/5 because something has to be exceptional to get a 5/5 from me. It was very good but a 5/5 should me somewhere worth a 1 hour drive out o your way do dime there. Just to give you an invite into my ranking. I had the stake and it was very nice. Not chewy at... More

I am always cautions about eating out at a Chinese restaurant as a gluten free meal is difficult to achieve. The Waterwheel came highly recommended and I had every confidence in their dietery knowledge and had a superb gluten free meal.

We only wanted to turn the car round but thought we may as well take a look. Glad we did it was the nicest meal we have had in 10 days in Cornwall served in a very clean and stylish restaurant. They have accommodation as well so will have to come back and stay. The prices are right as well.

We spent a long weekend at the Waterwheel with friends. Rooms where very clean. Choice of breakfast excellent. Outside area work still in progress but already quite spectacular. An ideal situation for visiting that part of Cornwall. Would certainly recommend this place .
