The Waterwheel Inn was built in the late 1700s. It is steeped in the industrial history of Cornwall as it was once a tin smelting house and then involved in clay drying. It is set in a beautiful wooded valley next to St Austell's White River and just 10 minutes walk from the town. The restaurant has been recently refurbished and is elegant but informal with exposed granite walls, oak floor and a log fire for cold winter evenings. We serve unpretentious, plentiful, freshly prepared meals including a 2 and 3 course menu for £14.95/£17.50, main meals from £10.00 and an a la carte menu with fresh local fish and seafood specials, plus extra mature chargrilled steaks.

I recently visited the Waterwheel Inn for a work Christmas party and was really quite moved by the experience that I felt a review was in order. Firstly the place is very well situated just off the Bodmin Road by the 'white river' which can be heard babbling away in the background (and conveniently masking what little traffic noise there... Mark and Francesca provided a superb special Chrismas dinner for 32 of us from the local tennis club. The members I have spoken to are unanimous in their appreciation of a superb meal in a lovely atmosphere, excellent value, and friendly and helpful service throughout. Based on our experience we would warmly recommend this restaurant.

Just back from spending two nights at the waterwheel and i have to say a big thankyou to chris , some great food , it doesn't get any better than that . Only thing i would say is the double room we had was small and the bed wasn't the best but it was very clean and we had the... More

The service we recieved from Mark and Francesca was excellent, what a lovely couple. The inn has recently been done up and the bedroom although quite small was of a very high standard and very comfortable. It was a real bonus having such an excellent restaurant on site as well. The food was great both for breakfast in the lovely conservatory... More

The Waterwheel in is a beautiful bar and restaurant, which also B&B rooms. When asked if we could hold a hastily arranged wedding for a terminally ill relative, they didn't bat an eyelid. They have a licence for civil ceremonies, and although it was the first day of the half term holidays, they still managed to accommodate us (even though... More

Myself and friends visited the Waterwheel recently having been recommended to try it and were very impressed by the quality of the food. Myself and my partner chose from the £17.50 3 course set menu, while our friends selected from the A La Carte menu. Having two fussy eaters within our party, Francesca went out of her way to accommodate... More

Just recently enjoyed another fantastic meal at the Waterwheel Inn. As soon as you enter the Inn, you are immediately aware of the welcoming and friendly atmosphere and this is enhanced by the tasteful décor. The food is freshly prepared to order using quality ingredients, and is delicious. We feel blessed to have this restaurant in our locality. The owners... More
