The Waterwheel Inn was built in the late 1700s. It is steeped in the industrial history of Cornwall as it was once a tin smelting house and then involved in clay drying. It is set in a beautiful wooded valley next to St Austell's White River and just 10 minutes walk from the town. The restaurant has been recently refurbished and is elegant but informal with exposed granite walls, oak floor and a log fire for cold winter evenings. We serve unpretentious, plentiful, freshly prepared meals including a 2 and 3 course menu for £14.95/£17.50, main meals from £10.00 and an a la carte menu with fresh local fish and seafood specials, plus extra mature chargrilled steaks.

Fantastic Food Fantastic Service

We have a family member who occasionally works here who recommended this restaurant which we have been to previously with the former owners. This was a family get together which doesn't happen very often as I live 250 miles away! We had a fantastic meal, great service and none of us could believe... read more

We stayed here in June, it was just what we hoped, relaxed but good food and very comfortable. The host are helpful in every way, would definitely stay here again as a good base for visiting some of the lovely gardens in this area.

We live not far from the waterwheel and i find myself using this establishment regularly for any family occasion and for the odd quite night out with my wife. The food is excellent and good value and the service is excellent. Best restaurant in the area in my opinion and as a large Austrian chap likes to say "i'll be... More

Such a shame.. We won't be going back! Sunday afternoon we pop in at 2.40Pm for a drink in the garden, it's peak season & we were turned away with no apology just a "we're not open". I also went at the beginning of the week, again just popped in for a drink and the best table with sun was... More

The Waterwheel Inn is not a pub so I am sorry if the inherited name confused you. We provide bed and breakfast accommodation for up to 17 people and in the evenings we have a lovely restaurant and bar for residents and non-residents, open every night except Sunday. We do not open to the public during the day at present... More

Drove past here the other night and thought what a lovely place to try. Well tried it tonight and the food was amazing. 4 of us tried the set menus. What a choice. The food was amazing for the price we paid. Even saw the chef picking fresh herbs from the garden. Highly recommended. We are already looking forward to... More

Fantastic location, very nice staff. The food is excellent at a very acceptable rate. We had Sea Bass for dinner accompanied with a good Pinot Grigio followed by a wonderfull dessert, a Belgian waffel ( see picture) The best food we had since we arrived in Cornwall a week ago.
