Excellent place to eat and watch life on the river

The staff were welcoming and friendly. Everywhere, including the toilets was spotless. The service was quick. Looking at other people's appetising meals we wished we had not eaten a picnic earlier!

Visited today for morning coffee!!! What a disappointment!! Stunning location but poorly organised and the staff were haphazard!! My husband went to the bar to order coffee we waited about 15 minutes for the gentleman to deliver them to our table to then be told that they don't do table service, baring in mind there was only us and another... We only went for coffees which as is normal in a pub, were ordered at the bar. Each coffee was made individually and I ended up waiting at least 20 mins as someone behind me in the queue got theirs before me which was annoying. The young inexperienced staff were doing their best but it needs real organisation and management.... More

This old, thatched pub is in a beautiful village, right on the river. Parking is a real problem, so be aware you might need to park quite a way away. The pub is well-kept and is lovely inside. We booked a table at 8pm, as there was jazz advertised for that time. The band did not start until 9pm. We... More

So a table booked in advance and having explained that our party had an older person who would appreciate a quieter table away from the band. No problem we were told. So arrive to no table ready and when one was allocated yep you guessed it right next to the band! Ah well we could live with that. But the... More

Booked early this morning for a table at 2:30. Was told this was fine. Place was full due to the live music. Turned up to find out they didn't have enough room for us, tried to fit 5 of us on a table in the bar that would only accommodate two with drinks. We managed to find a bigger table... More

Went on a Sunday afternoon. We booked a table at 11am for 2:30pm for 5 people, told was not a problem and see us later. Arrived to no table and complete chaos. Don't expect a Sunday lunch and most of the menu is out of stock by 3:00pm. We had to find our own table in the bar dingy bar,... More

This will be a review of two halves - some good, some poor which really sums up the Shipwrights arms based on a number of visits over the last two weeks. We booked for Sunday dinner and decided on starters. One pate, one chicken. Sadly bread is not so nice when it is re-heated to a inch of turning into... More

Visited pub twice in past ten days, for evening meal and then Sunday lunch. Idyllic setting. Lovely staff. Sadly food not so good. Unimaginative and undercooked. Very busy venue at weekends so waiting time for food, extended. Be prepared to wait.

Repeat visit with some friends, who loved this place. We came for a late lunch, Fish and Chips twice, Pasty and Chips once, one salad. Fish, Pasty and Chips looked and tasted as if they had been under the lamp for some hours. My normally good Vicky's bread had also been under the lamp, and was completely dried out. We... More
