Nice to be back!

Location-wise, this has to be one of the better pubs in Cornwall, if not the UK. One day I will get to visit when the tide is in though. In the past the food was quite limited, pretty much to a variety of ploughmans lunches, but this has changed. The place seems to have had some investment... read more

We booked a table for 7 people. Good points: location beautiful, especially in the sunshine. Dog friendly. Staff friendly (mainly, except for one who seemed to be annoyed as I ordered my main before some of the others had ordered their starter (she promptly scrunched up the paper, left it on the table and started again). Not so good points:... More

We booked a table having seen the beautiful location and lovely decor of the pub. We were really looking forward to what we expected would be a meal to match the attractiveness of the building and surroundings, however we were totally let down. Firstly upon arriving we were told that almost half the menu had run out with only a... More

Had a meal here with friends. The following morning most of the party were ill. When we arrived there was a strong smell of burning coming from the kitchen. Not long afterwards the fire alarm went. When our food arrived the battered cod and chips were very overdone and the steak that one of our party had ordered was raw.... More

I would give this pub five stars for location and atmosphere. We went there for a drink one evening and it was fine. On our last night in Cornwall, however, we decided we would eat there. Big mistake. Nobody seemed to be in charge. No service was offered - we had to stop a waitress every time we needed anything.... More

Beautiful riverside pub in a lovely peaceful village (a shame there doesn't seem to be many locals left there now). Ordered light bites; breaded brie with salad, pickled mackerel with toasted bread and garlic mushrooms with blue cheese. All very tasty, if a bit too pricey. The woman serving us was friendly and helpful. We ordered a brownie with clotted... More

We were looking forward very much to having lunch here again on a recent trip to Cornwall. What a marvellous location. However here is what happened. We asked the barman at around 11.40 am if we could see a menu, he obliged. We then asked what time they would be serving food, and was informed 12 noon. Going to the... More

We stayed in Helford village for a week and visited the Shipwrights on three occasions, twice to eat and once for an evening drink. The pub is in a wonderful location overlooking the river, the outdoor seating area is terraced down to the river and floating pontoon it is a great pace to sit to watch the world go by.... More

A great place for a drink or a lunch. Superb Views, Good food plus a good selction of local beers. They are open all day so dropping in for a late lunch (useful when there is a baby in the group). The views are stunning, best at high tide.

For such a beautiful looking pub in a wonderful location, this could have been so much better, but the day we went there, we left feeling disappointed. The menu was unimaginative: where were the local scallops, the buckets of mussels, fresh crab and lobster? My friends were so uninspired by the menu that they chose steak and chips! I opted... More
