My Nan Would Have Loved It

When you walk into Brula it is a bit like walking into your nan's living room. That having been said, who doesn't like walking into their nan's living room? This old converted butchers makes a surprisingly good venue for a restaurant endeavouring to serve good quality food towards the top end of... read more

We came on an excellent value voucher deal and would have no hesitation in returning. Le Salon Prive is in a quietish main road in St Margarets, which means easy parking. Restaurant was attractively styled and very French. Our welcome was warm and was a taster of the attentive service to come. Our dishes were attractively presented, well served and... More

We went there a week ago: the restaurant just had a full scale refurbishment. As soon as you walk in ,you feel a subtle French breeze whispers only good and positive vibes. The attention to details is overwhelming; this is clearly a classic French Bistro with a modern twist. It features also two private dining rooms and a Cocktail lounge... More

It used to brilliant. Just tried to make a booking got a very surly reply from the person telling us "it's no longer Brula, it's now Salon Prive". "Call back in the morning, as we are closed and I'm not there". Had it been Brula it would have been 'can we take your number, and call you back'. If that... More

Went here for a meal last Saturday evening. Had read the reviews and was looking forward to it good meal. The first problem was various dishes not available as was Campari to drink. However we then had a 1 hour and 40 minute wait from arriving at the restaurant to being served our first course. We were given no explanation... More

Under new ownership and the staff managed very well last Saturday lunchtime as the place was full. We had a good table on the top floor by the window. I had the smoked duck starter followed by the plaice. Both of which were good but the plaice was swimming in too much oil. Others had the lamb shanks although the... More

Been to Brula few times over the years with friends and on our own. They have recently changed ownership but I can advise the food is still excellent and we were made very welcome. We were in the little open room just off the restaurant 6 of us in total. Would recommend for the food we had 3 courses each.... More

Our friends arranged for us to meet for dinner at Brula after previously having a great experience here. Due to a dairy intolerance on my part, I was sceptical about coming to a French restaurant. I did email ahead to check that they would be able to cater for my intolerances and was very relieved to receive an email to... More

We were in the mood for something fine and French, and were very pleasantly rewarded with both at Brula. After a long day at work, I checked to see if the kitchen would still take orders at 21.00, which they did. The manageress was super-pleasant and clearly personally invested in making sure we had the best possible experience. Delicious and... More

It's a while since my last visit and I was a little disappointed. Starters and puddings were good, but mains were rather average. The cheapest wine is now £19.50. Service was OK. The restaurant was sold by its founders in January.
