Lovey Lunch - Though Just a Couple of Niggles

An old friend lives in Haslingden and we have also become friends with her friend, so hubby and I travelled from Cheadle, Cheshire to pick them up and then take them out to lunch to celebrate us three ladies recovering/getting the all clear from various health issues - I'm the youngest at nearly 64... read more

The pub is very well presented outside and in. Clean and tidy throughout. The staff were pleasant, welcoming and helpful. The food was served within a reasonable time even though it was a busy Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately the food was also totally forgettable. The roast potatoes were dry and tasteless and appeared to be reheated. The beef appeared to be... More

We called here one very rainy Sunday in April. It was packed with diners. We were seated on tall stools in the bar area but shortly afterwards a table became vacant in the restaurant and we were seated in there as we preferred it. I have to say reading some other reviews on here I'm beginning to wonder if I... More

We called for lunch for my birthday, it was a lovely day and people were sat on the patio.the menu was quite varied and offered something for everybody, as we waited for our food we saw lots of dishes going to other diners and they all looked very nice .My husband had the black pudding with lancashire cheese and bacon... The Red Lion used to offer high quality food, great service and good value. The Brewery pressured the previous Landlords to cut costs, etc. so they left and so did the chef. Now the food is of a lower standard, the service is really poor and we will not be going back. We ordered Risotto and I had gammon -... More

Called in to the Red Lion for some lunch. The bar area was almost empty with only one couple dining and the restaurant area not that busy either so no excuses for us standing at the bar for almost 10 minutes being ignored by two members of staff that were stood behind the bar and had clearly seen us. If... More

So this evening myself and a party of 10 visited The Red Lion for a birthday celebration meal. I have to say the last time I came here was many years ago and it's had a great makeover. The pub and dining area looks great. We ordered drinks and sat down at our table to eat. The menu had just... More

We have had a couple of lunches in the Red Lion recently which we have enjoyed, but last night we had an evening meal. After the long Easter holiday weekend, many pubs have that post holiday feeling but the Red Lion had a full specials menu and we were served by bright and cheerful staff. The Black Pudding and poached... More

Went today with my family. Me and my partner had the cheese and onion pie with mushy peas. It was a proper pie and not a bowl with a pastry top. Generous amount of food on your plate and well presented. Will be going back there again to sample there excellent menu and choice. Recommend 😊
