nice surroundings but limited menu

After a lovely drive what a delightful hidden gem. The pub was lovely with nice helpful staff and prompt service. The menu was in my opinion a little limited compared with the Duckworth Arms which is also a jwlees pub. The food was lovely though and there was plenty of it, make sure you check out... read more

The Red Lion is a big busy comfortable pub near moorland. Staff are pleasant and helpful. The food, sadly, is dull. No amount of dressing up on fancy plates can disguise basic pub grub that tastes as though it's mostly been assembled from packets, not cooked from scratch. Note that only tips in cash go to the staff, tips added... More

Just popped in for a bite to eat but was bitterly disappointed in comparison to our previous visits! Jokingly I said to my hubby it must have been taken over by someone else because the good wasn't as nice and the service was poor ...... If anything they tried too hard and made mega mistakes one after the other with... More

The food was fantastic with an excellent choice and fab variety even on the children's menu! Not at all pretentious and enjoyed so much would go again! Actually my mum went again the... More

Great visit tonight. Although it was pie night I chose my usual burger with my personal choice of toppings. Nothing is too much trouble and the quality of the food and service is always exceptional. Top place to eat in the area.

We have previously visited this restaurant on many occasions and the experience has been good. However, management has recently changed and our experience this time was bad! Table booked for six people to celebrate a golden wedding anniversary, arrived at restaurant at 7.20pm for a 7.30pm booking. Without going into full detail or I would be writing forever, table not... The Red Lion was one of my favorites, smart enough to fell that you are "out" yet casual and local enough that you can just drop in for something to eat of an evening after work. I first visited two years ago and liked what I found. Arriving mid evening at peak time we have on occasion had to wait... More

Dined their last weekend. Looks like an olde worldie pub from the outside but is modern on the inside which lets it down a little. Seems a little soulless. Food was good albeit a little pricey. Very busy place though with most of the clientèle being affluent senior citizens. Staff are attentive but impersonal and give the impression they are... More
