Great location, great service, ok main courses, shame about the desserts

It was disappointing that they didn't tell us, when we booked, about the roadworks that made access extremely difficult. We and another couple in our party drove miles along different access roads, trying to reach the place. When we eventually made it, the welcome was warm, the beer from... read more

Decided just to turn up with husband and father in law on a Sunday afternoon. Didn't expect to get a table, but we're offered one with a view of a canal. We were warned that table was booked and we would have to vacate by 2.30pm. This did not bother us. Meals chosen and we watched as the pub began... More

It was disappointing that they didn't tell us, when we booked, about the roadworks that made access extremely difficult. We and another couple in our party drove miles along different access roads, trying to reach the place. When we eventually made it, the welcome was warm, the beer from Wadworth first class. They gave us a perfect table by an... More

Had lunch here earlier in the month with friends. All of us had great difficulty negotiating the road diversions. This time I was pleased to see there are signs letting drivers know The Barge is still open. Last time I had the faggots as a light bite, and it was delicious. So this time I ordered the faggots as a... More

Me and my family attended on Saturday evening for a meal. We have been now a few times and have always had a pleasant experience. We were booked to eat early evening and when we arrived we commented on how quiet the place seemed we assumed that the time of the year was keeping people at home. When seated we... More

Having eaten here a number of times and always being very impressed, we decided to book here for Christmas dinner. Obviously this wasn't cheap at £75 a head, not including drinks but as it was such a special occasion we didn't mind. When we arrived, the place was busy. Not just the bar but the dining area, there were a... More

My family and I booked a table to eat here for my father in laws birthday. Everything seemed to be a pain. It was a quiet night for diners this night so we were excited to be spoilt for choice on our service. However this was not the case.. Our starters were just plonked in front of us with a... More

Popped in today for quick lunch, second visit in last month. We both opted for the 2 course set lunch for £12.95 which was fantastic value. Starter of duck pate served with delicious chutney, salad and crispy bread slices. Main course a whole filleted trout served with fresh green beans and crushed potatoes. More than enough for lunch and cooked... More

Went for Lunch on new years day, the place was busy, and service was very slow, the food was ok, but some of the meals in our party were cold. Average food at top prices

I have been here twice now and both times the staff were attentive and polite. A great place for families as they have a great menu and welcome children. They even have board games for the kids. On the visit the food was excellent apart from one of our meals where the fish cake was overdone/ burnt. Other than that... More

We needed somewhere midway between all of our home towns to meet and eat, what a great choice this turned out to be. Lovely waterside setting well trained and welcoming staff. Lovely real log fires and plenty of room for our party of 9 on a large table. The food was very good and well cooked and presented. Altogether a... More
