The Old House at Home is a wonderful old ivy-clad country pub located in the village of Burton, only two miles from Castle Combe. With a soulful and unpretentious vibe, the award-winning, family-run restaurant has a cosy dining room with a roaring open fire and down-to-earth staff. Head Chef Anthony Jones has created a classic British menu using seasonal produce. Fresh fish is delivered to The Old House at Home daily from Cornwall, along with beef from Scotland. Favourite dishes include the guinea fowl served with apricot stuffing and a redcurrant and Grand Marnier sauce; the spicy salmon and crab cakes with a fresh tomato and basil sauce; and the scrumptious chocolate and Bailey's cheesecake.

Having not been there for two years we decided to give it another go.. and very pleased we were too. The menu had changed radically as had all of the staff and good news on both. I had the liver dish and it was fantastic the liver had been flash cooked and it was just cooked, soft and oozed... read more

We were looking forward to celebrating our anniversary at somewhere special this year. What a let down! It wasnt nearly as busy at it usually is (always dodgy; not a lot of cars in the carpark!). The staff were not that attentive and too be honest, didnt really know how to interact with the dinners that were there. Once we... More

Hello Amanda, I am really sorry to hear of your disappointing experience. We always strive to deliver great service, our food is all cooked from fresh and as you can see from other reviews we very rarely receive bad comments. Any dishes that happen to be sent back, we ensure they are re-plated, re-oven heated and returned to our great... More

We visited as part of a travelzoo voucher and the food is amazing and so are the staff. We'd be more than happy to visit again and pay full price. The food is worth it and the pub is very welcoming. Lovely place.

Bought a voucher for a two course lunch with a glass of wine for two and visited on a miserably rainy day. Carpark was a bit tight to negotiate and must be impossible during busier periods. The Old House at Home was empty on our arrival and remained quiet during our stay. It was nicely decorated for Christmas, had a... More

When we chose to visit the Cotswolds for a pre-Christmas trip, we were happy to book a room at The Old House for a second time. Like on our previous visit, we chose Ruinart, one of six tastefully furnished rooms in a detached block adjacent to the pub/restaurant. The room is spacious and warm, with a large bathroom and walk-in... More

I have visited this pub on a number of ocassions for lunch and evening meal.it has a lovely cosy feel inside and the food cannot be faulted.have to agree with number of reviewers that it is the staff that let's it down as it feels hostile and no one is very welcoming.such a shame as with welcoming friendly bar staff... Had a travelzoo voucher for a two course meal with prosecco so visited on a Saturday lunchtime. Food was really good and very tasty - would recommend ghe liver and bacon main meal. Portion sizes were generous. Pub was lovely inside and out, however quite chilly and staff weren't overly friendly or welcoming.

This place served us a terrific lunch and I very heartily recommend it. If you are visiting Castle Combe, it is worth the trip. I can see why the pub markets itself with the Castle Combe connection but it really can stand on its own. The monkfish cheeks we had were delicious and every aspect was good. Competent but not... We have been to the old house at home three times now, and always enjoy our meal. We have had a couple of vouchers on occasions too and this has made it fantastic value.
