The Old House at Home is a wonderful old ivy-clad country pub located in the village of Burton, only two miles from Castle Combe. With a soulful and unpretentious vibe, the award-winning, family-run restaurant has a cosy dining room with a roaring open fire and down-to-earth staff. Head Chef Anthony Jones has created a classic British menu using seasonal produce. Fresh fish is delivered to The Old House at Home daily from Cornwall, along with beef from Scotland. Favourite dishes include the guinea fowl served with apricot stuffing and a redcurrant and Grand Marnier sauce; the spicy salmon and crab cakes with a fresh tomato and basil sauce; and the scrumptious chocolate and Bailey's cheesecake.

Lovely find

My husband and I stopped by here for breakfast between Christmas and New Year. We found the pub to have a really lovely feel and the breakfast was fabulous (especially the black pudding!) Normally we check trip advisor before we go anywhere new but we didn't on this occasion and I'm glad we... read more

This is a restaurant we've visited a number of times. The ambience and charm are still there and the service friendly, but something seemed to be missing. In the past I have always thought the menu imaginative, if a little overpriced. On this occasion my feeling were reversed. Not so overpriced any more but a less appealing menu. Sure, the... More

Firstly this pub is not in Castle Combe, which is 5 miles away. There should be a rule about such mis advertising especially for those that are not local. We have sadly experienced a dreadful evening here. This is meant to be a family run pub, yet no family members were there on a Friday evening. That would not normally... More

My partner and I stayed here together the other weekend. The actual pub was lovely and so was the room. We checked in about 5pm and after a shower and a cup of tea we were ready to go down for a drink and dinner. We had a table booked and when we wandered over to the restaurant there was... More

A group of 5 of us managed to make a last minute booking here and we were so glad to get in. We all had really delicious meals. The steaks were tender, juicy and perfectly cooked as was the liver and kidneys. All the staff were really helpful and very pleasant.

The food and service were very good, with a warm friendly atmosphere. The staff were more than helpful in bring out the surprise birthday cake and singing happy birthday.

I've passed here many times but had never been in before so met some friends there for lunch. The service was prompt but not especially friendly. We all had sandwiches which were very good but the triple cooked chips were disappointing. Is eat there again based on this experience.

Having heard of and, been to another pub owned by OHH I was excited to visit the one in Castle Coombe. It was by accident that we visited today and was simply as a result of leaving another pub due to poor service. Well, we were truly blown away the service... charming and personable, everything you would expect and more.... More

Been going here a long time but in recent years we've noticed a real decline in standards.. The prices go up but the quality has gone well down. We'll not bother with this place any more as any random pub provides the service this place does but at much cheaper prices for food. If you pay top rate you expect... More
