The Old House at Home is a wonderful old ivy-clad country pub located in the village of Burton, only two miles from Castle Combe. With a soulful and unpretentious vibe, the award-winning, family-run restaurant has a cosy dining room with a roaring open fire and down-to-earth staff. Head Chef Anthony Jones has created a classic British menu using seasonal produce. Fresh fish is delivered to The Old House at Home daily from Cornwall, along with beef from Scotland. Favourite dishes include the guinea fowl served with apricot stuffing and a redcurrant and Grand Marnier sauce; the spicy salmon and crab cakes with a fresh tomato and basil sauce; and the scrumptious chocolate and Bailey's cheesecake.

Disappointing meal

Its only a few months since our last visit to OHH & we were rather disappointed with our meals. The staff as usual were very welcoming & friendly but sadly our meals didn't live up to their usual standard. The faggots on the specials board were not very special & the handmade chips served with the... read more

Visited here earlier for a birthday meal. Ease of booking on line was very good, The food here is always good not cheap but good. You are always made to feel welcome and the menu offers something for everyone. Have also visited recently for fixed price lunch which again was value for money with good choice and service.

Went for Sunday Lunch at the OHH today - there were 4 in our party. Three of us had the set Sunday 3 course lunch and the other duck breast from the main menu plus dessert. All the food (Beef, Lamb, Chicken) was superb as were the starters and the desserts divine. We have not been here for a while... More

We have visited several times over the years and always found the food to be really good and the menu a bit different from other pubs so worth paying the higher prices. Whilst we still enjoyed our meals the choice is now pretty much what you can eat in other pubs at less cost. The atmosphere was nice and I... More

This was the second time we have visited! The first was good with it being a quiet Monday and the service attentive and the food good. Yesterday the food was just as good but what let the whole experience down was the 'can't be bothered' staff. There was no interaction and it seemed very slow and nothing like when we... More

went for meal on bank holiday and was surprised it was not busier. Although we had booked on open table and requested table by the window no notice was taken. The pub is old and in need of some refurbishment. However it is very popular with locals and that is always a good sign. The menu was ok but quite... More

Well worth visiting. Prices were above average for a pub restaurant but the quality of the food certainly proved that the prices were worth paying.

We bought vouchers for two two course lunches. I rang to book the first, the lady was SO curt and rude to me, really sharp that I put the phone down and wanted to cancel the 'deal' and get our money back. My husband said he'd try and he spoke to a nice young chap who confirmed our lunch booking,... More

We were driving around Castle Combe and decided to go for an early meal in The Old House at Home. It was around 6pm so it was nice to find this popular pub / restaurant relatively quiet. We found a table by one of the nice open fires and after a drink ordered our meals. I had a prawn cocktail... More
