The food is outstanding, the atmosphere is charming, the service is, usually, a bit awkward, which I find all the more endearing. The menu changes frequently to accommodate whatever local ingredients have been obtained that week and, seriously, is always outstanding. Oh, also: there's a little bar, so if you, say, want a bloody mary with your brunch, you can... More

This small cafe could easily become a 4*, with little effort. Upon entering, a small buffet is obvious, on the bar area, containing wonderful greens and an in-house dressing, accompanied with other homemade delicacies. They have liquor and beer selections, and their own vodka flavors. Everything is fresh, but they haven't 'quite' mastered, flavoring food without meat. Service is slow,... More

A family owned Restaurant!! How awesome is that in this day & age?? Food & price is unbelievable here!! All entrees are vegetarian but great dishes even for the non vegetarian! There is also a nice wine list, full bar, and nice assortment of beers. The owners are the cooks, waiters, etc. & they are amazing. They make great recommendations... More

This is a vegetarian restaurant, but I'm not a vegetarian (my wife is). I don't remember the names of the meals we ordered yesterday, and the menu is now different. This is because the chef apparently bases the menu on the freshest food she can find, at farmers' markets when she can. But I can tell you that she makes... More

I have seen this place before but wasn't really sure if it was something I wanted to try. Homestead has a lot of run down/vacant buildings and I never got the feeling that this was a place I wanted to be. Curiosity got the best of me and I am glad I gave this place a try! I knew it... More

After the launch for my book about the Homestead Strike of 1892, family and friends came to the cafe for a celebratory dinner. Even though more people came than I had made reservations for, the staff was unflappable as they set up seating on the patio. Bar service was slow, probably because the server was overwhelmed by so many people... More

I recently went with family members before a performance in the area. The menu is quite interesting and surprisingly not expensive. Although the menu has a deridingly southern emphasis with black eyed peas and collared greens, baked Mac 'n cheese, cheese grits, etc., the owners are not from the south and state they have tried giving it an Ethiopian slant.... The Tin Front is a funky independent family owned and operated restaurant. I have been ther for breakfast on Saturday's on several occasions. While the food is always good the service is a bit slow. But it is really nice to be able to have a bloody mary with breakfast!

We did a search in Pittsburgh for vegetarian restaurants during a weekend trip. Little trips and locally owned do not scare us away. We arrived to a clean space with friendly wait staff. Sunday is a brunch. There were sides and pastries with juice, teas and coffees set out on the bar. There was a combo of hot and cold... More

On a recent Saturday night, we ventured down to boarded up Homestead, past site of a thriving steel mill, now suffering the depression and poverty that is the norm now along the Monongohela River in Western PA. Driving along Eighth Avenue, you would never expect to find this little bit of wonderful, but there it was: Tin Front Cafe. Tin... More
