My favorite Harrisburg restaurant. I like to stop during the week when you don't need reservations and pick a 2 or 3 course meal. Shrimp risotto is amazing! Creme brûlée amazing! Char is there any time we go and always checks on us.

Our children bought a gift certificate for us for our anniversary because we have always wanted to go. We arrived, they took our coats that was nice, but we noticed the hostess was dressed sloppily, we were seated next to a large poinsettia, lovely but it had a big price tag on it, the library/ lounge had cobwebs all over,... 1st timers. Arrived early for a drink in the library, got in there and we were the only ones! Not happening for me, so asked if we could move to bar where there were 2 open seats. Waitress said there were reservations, she would have to check. Wow, reservations at the bar? She came back, said we were fine to... More

My husband and I had a lovely and delicious meal at Char's last night. Of course, the setting is beautiful....a 1913 mansion overlooking the Susquehanna River. We were greeted at the door and seated immediately by friendly staff. The menu for the night was Prix Fixe with numerous selections for each course. The dishes are "French inspired" by Chef Canady,... More

The price really puts this restaurant in a very special occasion or business dinner only category. Our food was excellent, the service outstanding. For a snowy Monday night, it was not crowded at all (we had been told noise could be a problem). Quality and variety of dinner selections was quite nice. Portions were good. It's just, well - expensive.... More

Although the food was fabulous, we felt like we were in a retirement home and we are not young. Our party of six was seated in the library room which was quiet with 3 other large tables. Not a vibrant atmosphere but the fish was excellent as was the lamb. Pricey - good food but not the overall experience.

My work team and I had occasion to celebrate this month and decided that we would book a dinner at Char's at Tracy Mansion as it is one of a few higher-end restaurants in the Harrisburg area. It was a chilly night and the four of us were warmly greeted and immediately shown to our reserved table. Our waitress promptly... More

We enjoyed an excellent dinner in a very nice quite atmosphere. The staff was very attentive and friendly. They provided excellent suggestions on wine and dinner selections. While the cost is higher end, the quality of the food and available selections of wine, entrees and desserts provided an excellent experience. I believe that Char's is probably one of the top... In the little capitol town, less than 55000 inhabitants, this is fine dining with gracious service, fresh ingredients cleverly and not oddly combined great food all the way round would only watch the sauces, which at times are a bit too much for the dish they combine with otherwise great wine list and surprisingly elegant

Came to Harrisburg for the historic home tours and decided to stay for dinner. We ended our tour at the governor's mansion and found Char's convenient at just a few blocks south on front street. We'd read the good reviews and were hoping for a nice experience but Char's exceeded our expectations. Service, quality and value were all top notch.... More
