A gem!

My mother and I were spending some time together today 140415. She suggested we go for lunch at The Red Lion at Newbrough as she had heard some ladies talking in Hexham that they get the bus from Hexham to Newbrough especially to go for lunch here. We got parked directly outside, which is great... read more

Had a great cod loin and an even better desert, butterscotch on a sticky toffe pudding, wow. my other half had lobster and crab ravioli and homemade crumble, all enjoyed and washed down with adder beer, a local beer which is great, very friendly host and didn't feel too put of place with it being a local pub

My wife and I visited the Red Lion today for lunch, I had found this Pub on the internet. On arriving everything look fine, we ordered our drinks and were shown to our table, looking at the menu it bears little resemblance to the sample menu on their website. We decided to give it a try anyway, we started with... More

Always top service and lovely food. Immense duck starter. Beef and lamb both on the rare side, but they are always happy to do well done if you ask. You couldn't be made to feel more welcome.

Good choice and good sized portions, attractively served. Nothing to dislike. I particularly liked the gammon steak.

Poor starter (like olives from a supermarket jar). Good main (fish dish and nice veg). Bar/restaurant was traditional-ish. Maybe a bit TOO quiet. Waitress was lovely and attentive and chatty.

We were visiting family in the area so just needed somewhere locally for bed and breakfast. I gather from other reviews that the evening meals are very good, but we were fed at our family's home except for breakfast. This was really good, freshly cooked to order and lots of it. No-one need go away from The Red Lion hungry!... More

I've eaten at the red several times now, and not once could I fault the food! Ive tried all aspects of the menu (with it changing on a regular basis) and been thoroughly impressed. I've been told that all elements of the menu are homemade apart from the bread and the ice cream are home made and for the money... More

Wonderful food, very friendly atmosphere. They also have a tea room and craft shop which is well worth a visit. Very near Hadrians Wall, Chesters Roman museum.

The best place to spend a very soggy Friday night. Staff, food, beer & wine excellent!! The belly of pork with black pudding was delicious.
