Pretty good fried chicken at this restaurant. They sell it by the box or bucket as well as prepared meals that you can take back to your motel or on the road for a picnic at one of the nearby rest areas.

We use to enjoy going to the Gateway with our children when they were young. We would often get a jump on our vacation and drive as far as Breezewood and spend the night and start off fresh the next morning. Breezewood is about 2 hours from the Waterfront/outskirts of Pgh area. We always had dinner at the Gatewood. Service... More

The Gateway has been a major landmark in Breezewood, where travelers leave the PA Turnpike for I-70 or to get refueled. These days Gateway is partly a gas station, convenience store, traveler break area, and restaurant. The restaurant staff is super nice. The food is plentiful, but probably nothing special, though it is a break from fast food.

On a positive note, the dishes and table were clean. While we were seated almost immediately, the wait for food took a very long time for eggs, ham, potatoes, and pancakes. The potatoes were so salty, that they could not be eaten. The ham, I'm pretty sure, came from a can. While the pancakes and eggs were OK, the food... More

The food was ok, nothing great and not memorable. The staff was very nice and helpful. We were there on a holiday weekend and it was BUSY. We were seated immediately which was great.

In short, the food is not good, but the staff are absolutely fantastic. I’d eat there again to interact with these wonderful people, but I would bring my own food along. We stopped in for a quick sit-down dinner on the way from DC to Pittsburgh. This is the reason Breezewood exists. Our party of four were seated immediately, and... More

The Gateway Restaurant has a fairly large variety of food offered on their menu. We arrived at 7:00-PM on a Friday night, and while the restaurant was not full, there seemed to be a shortage of wait staff. It took nearly 30-minutes before our food was served. It was warm; not hot. Tasted OK. Several (5+) of the used, empty... More

You can eat it. The buffet is convenient. It's an easy pick for a group of travelers. Something for everyone.

This place reminds me of a local diner in a small town. Even though it's in a travel plaza, I thought that just added to the charm. My boyfriend and I both got an egg sandwich on toast and hash browns for breakfast. It really was delicious food and filled us up. The waitress was semi-pleasant, she was not rude... More

A friend and I were on our way to acme and stopped in Breezewood for lunch. We opted for Gateway since it was the only non-chain around and we had breakfast - she had steak and eggs, I country fried steak and eggs. The food took a long time to be served. I presume it was because it was cooked... More
