Dating back to 1681, The Broad Axe Tavern is one of America's oldest taverns. Reopened in May of 2009 after undergone a multi-million dollar renovation. We welcome you to come in to see and enjoy this historic land mark. The pointed stone, hardwood and slate tiled floors give the restaurant its old world charm. Its leather booths, wood tables and iron fixtures also give it a casual elegance. The menu is a eclectic mix of small plates for grazing, grilled pizzas, large plates and tavern sandwiches. Guest favorites include Steamed Mussels, Seafood Chowder and Crab Cakes, NY Strip Steak and our Award-Winning BBQ Ribs. A great place to meet and greet with sixteen craft and imported beers on tap, over 175 bottled beers from around the world for your enjoyment. Or try a bottle of wine from our 21 Club, 38 Special list. We also have high end Premium wines or one of our great wines by the glass. Daily drink specials include happy hour 5-7pm.

I apologize for your experience. And I did all I can to get to your table. Unfortunately, in my attempt to fix the issue for all our guests I had to focus on the main issue..by the time I got to your table I found $40 on a $70 check. Although the night was the toughest in a very long... More

Love eating here after a movie, casual dining in a lovely historical setting. Menu has great variety. Servers are friendly and efficient generally, however we have had really slow service on a few occasions. Food is good, prices reasonable. Can get LOUD, especially if you are seated anywhere near the bar, so not a good choice for romantic dinners.

We've been a few times and always enjoyed our food. The range of food options is surprising - I expected good pub food, but the tacos were great. Service has been good (we had a great waitress a couple times and a fair waiter on a different trip). We had some trouble on our last trip with my dinner getting... More

I was very excited to eat at the Broad Axe as I visited there for a drink a few weeks earlier. The menu looked great and the overall atmosphere is very cool. We arrived on a Saturday night and the place wasn't very crowded. That was goos for us. We were seated right away. The server was slow and she... More

Greeted promptly at door by two of the staff who were genuinely happy to see you. Brought us to comfy booth table and had pleasure of great server, Wendy. Another great, happy employee of Broad Axe. This is a real change of pace of find great people in a venue with diverse menu. I ordered pull port sandwich which was... More

Drove out specially on a Sunday to check out the oldest bar in PA. Easy to find with GPS. Two parking lots. Nice clean and attractive exterior with the landscaping and ole stone building. We were greeted promptly by the hostess but we elected to sit at the bar. Interior is clean and comfortable. A mix of the old and... More

This place really surprised us. We came here after a 7 1/2 hour drive. Exhausted but hungry we wanted to have a good meal with as little effort as we could. The staff here was friendly. The food was amazing. I had the loaded burger and my wife the bacon style pork with mac & cheese. Both were cooked perfectly... More

Was there on a recent Sunday. The place was mostly empty, but we sat for 15 minutes with no waiter in sight. He finally appeared carrying a single beer for a neighboring table and complaining loudly about how difficult it was to pour. He finally took our order, which included a bottle of wine. He then disappeared for another 10... More

Second time at ths restaurant. Party of 5 at 5PM on a Saturday. Greeted (if you can call it that) at the front by a hostess who asked us if we had a reservation. We said no and she was slightly annoyed. The restaurant was 90% empty. She seated us next to the kitchen window and that is when this... More
