Description: Dating back to 1681, The Broad Axe Tavern is one of America's oldest...
Dating back to 1681, The Broad Axe Tavern is one of America's oldest taverns. Reopened in May of 2009 after undergone a multi-million dollar renovation. We welcome you to come in to see and enjoy this historic land mark. The pointed stone, hardwood and slate tiled floors give the restaurant its old world charm. Its leather booths, wood tables and iron fixtures also give it a casual elegance. The menu is a eclectic mix of small plates for grazing, grilled pizzas, large plates and tavern sandwiches. Guest favorites include Steamed Mussels, Seafood Chowder and Crab Cakes, NY Strip Steak and our Award-Winning BBQ Ribs. A great place to meet and greet with sixteen craft and imported beers on tap, over 175 bottled beers from around the world for your enjoyment. Or try a bottle of wine from our 21 Club, 38 Special list. We also have high end Premium wines or one of our great wines by the glass. Daily drink specials include happy hour 5-7pm.

Nice lunch place

Good lunch choices, attentive and friendly service but not precise - chicken sandwich ordered without bacon came with bacon, soup not served until reminded. Good place on a Tuesday for conversation; dinner experience was much higher volume. The renovation is still amazing.

How in the world is this joint still open? I imagine the extensive beer list is the reason because the food is alarmingly bad. I ordered the dry rubbed ribs (which was a special) with corn and chorizo mac and cheese. The purpose of the dry rub is to create a crust on the outside of the rib so the... More

Thank you for your review. We are looking into those dishes and the staff that prepared them. Being America's Oldest Tavern, we take your reviews serious and take action to fix or improve our weaknesses...been doing so since the 1650s. More

I came here for a business celebration dinner. We were seated in the upstairs area since we had about eleven people to our party. So we had the whole area to ourselves, which was nice. The atmosphere was desirable. Everyone enjoyed the appetizers, main courses and drinks. Unfortunately, I did not pay attention to all that was ordered. I can... More

This is a nice place, suitable for families, friends and couples. We grabbed a seat at the bar and the beer list was great. The food was good too, but the portions were pretty small and it took a long time to get (the bartender did tell us that the kitchen was slow that night). My fish tacos took about... More

Went here for an early dinner on a Saturday. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and beers on tap. The beer selection was really good both for beers on tap and bottled. The crap dip was awesome probably the best crab dip I have ever eaten. The mussels were awesome also. Prices were very reasonable.

We found the staff to be very attentive. An impressive beer selection. My husband and I had burgers, my daughter had a salad and mussels. All were very good! The pub was a fun area to watch a college basketball game on the many TVs. Great old building very well restored. Has the oldest continuous liquor license in the US.... More

We've dined here several times and had decent food and service--but then they weren't busy. We came on a Saturday night and had a reservation. The hostess seemed overwhelmed--there was a large number of people waiting to be seated and all had reservations. She actually forgot about us and 15 minutes later we had to remind her. When we got... More

I apologize for your experience. And I did all I can to get to your table. Unfortunately, in my attempt to fix the issue for all our guests I had to focus on the main issue..by the time I got to your table I found $40 on a $70 check. Although the night was the toughest in a very long... More

Love eating here after a movie, casual dining in a lovely historical setting. Menu has great variety. Servers are friendly and efficient generally, however we have had really slow service on a few occasions. Food is good, prices reasonable. Can get LOUD, especially if you are seated anywhere near the bar, so not a good choice for romantic dinners.

We've been a few times and always enjoyed our food. The range of food options is surprising - I expected good pub food, but the tacos were great. Service has been good (we had a great waitress a couple times and a fair waiter on a different trip). We had some trouble on our last trip with my dinner getting... More
