Old style Supper Club

Just happened upon this restaurant on our way to Portland after having driven the Columbia River Gorge. I go here when I have a craving for Chicken 'N Dumplins" that's all i ever get because they are amazing! The atmosphere is beautiful overlooking the Sandy river and the staff are always friendly. Tad's is off the beaten path and that makes everything quaint and cozy, nostalgic. Go see for yourself.

I really enjoyed this restaurant and the atmosphere. It was a "tad" pricey (excuse the pun) but the chicken and dumplings were delicious. I'm from the south, so this was a different type than what i am accustomed to. More like a pot pie. Large portions too.

What can you say about decades of patronizing a place. Our Grandfather used to take us there and we have had many family get together. Has to be in the dictionary for comfort food, a picture of Tad's Chicken and Dumplings. Warm atmosphere, woody interior, right on the river, the smells of the forest and river. A quintessential dinner house.... More

I get it that this is an institution. People love it, and it's been around for many, many years. My wife ate there with business colleagues several months ago and went on about it. So this last weekend we tried it. She had Chicken & Dumplings that had incredibly tough chicken, otherwise okay. I had pan fried oysters that were... More

I've been coming here since my parents began taking me here as a small child; it would be safe to say I've probably been at least 50 times in my life time. Back then they had big old fatty racoons that would hang out outside, hoping for someone to drop some food, but I haven't seen that here in years.... More

Tad's is one of my favorite places in all of the Portland area. It's situated along the Sandy river in a forested setting. Inside, it's paneled in cedar with a native stone fireplace. The restaurant actually hangs out over the slope down to the river. It has moveable walls so that the main dining room can be opened up to... More

Funny old place, this. We'd been out driving and decided to try this 'famous' restaurant. I'm not sure which section is older, but the one we sat in was not young. Everything is dark paneling and it's actually sort of gloomy with the low lights. They were moderately busy on an October weeknight. We started with an order of sauteed... More

We drove the old convertible out to Tad's last night. What fun. Right on the Sandy river, the windows were open and the moon was full. What a great combo! When you arrive you get a little relish tray to nosh on, nice touch. Started with the chicken liver appetizer. This is my thing, not the hubs--but they were so... More

Tucked away up the historic old highway on the edge of town (Troutdale is just outside of Portland) this place offers a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere with a view of the Sandy River. We were there in early fall and the windows were open to the evening. Aah! Of course we all ordered the chicken and dumplings! Yum! Although I think... More
