we stop in about every 3 months for our German food fix

Have never been disappointed, always yummy hot food with amazing wait staff. It's one kind of food I choose not to cook, so I can enjoy my meals here more. The cheese fondue with bread and sausage is nearly a meal in its self. Save room for dessert or take it home, you will be happy you did... read more

After shopping at Washington Square, my husband and I went over to Gustav's for lunch. We've been there before and loved it. One of the specials was a Hungarian-type goulash and it was excellent! Since the portions were large, we were unable to finish it all. We will return when we travel to this area again.

Wow. :-( I'll admit that I have been spoiled a bit, having German Grandparents and eating some yummy german food in my childhood..... I had high expectations for this place when my Daughter (a local) took us there (she had never been there, just thought it sounded interesting). BUT this place really disappointed in many ways today. Three of us... More

Always a delight. Love the German ambiance. Good service and very friendly. Cheese fondue very rich and delicious. Pretzels big, hot and salty. Also delicious. My husband really enjoyed the sausage and red cabbage. He did pass on the pineapple sauerkraut. The rest of the family tried it and all affirmed his decision. Since when did German mean Hawaii! Unexpected... More

Absolutely outstanding! I've been craving German food for a long time, particularly Sauerbraten. When i found out about Gustav's, I couldn't wait to go. I wasn't disappointed. It was fairly busy, but we were seated after a short wait. I met a couple of friends here who never had German cuisine before. We all selected a German beer and shared... More

the cabbage rolls was topped with chopped canned tomatoes and breading pudding was not moist. both dishes very bland overall. appetizer menu ingredients with soy sauce and cheddar cheese topping set off alarms in my head.

As always at this restaurant, the atmosphere was quite friendly, with our group and everyone around us having a good time. At our table we had 7 different meals. The fondue, the beer and wine, and the main meals were all quite tasty. This restaurant has been a standby for us, and it will continue to be a place we... More

First off awful service we were a party of 9 with reservations so they knew we were coming. Couldn't keep water or soda full we had to keep asking and would take forever. We asked for a pitcher to be left at our table but they wouldn't do that either. We all ordered and the waitress asked what salad we... More

Wow! Really good food! Yes, make a reservation on the weekend. This restaurant serves up a lovely assortment of German cuisine. My friend and I shared the Bavarian Pretzel. DELICIOUS! They actually gave us two big soft pretzels with salt to be dipped in their sauce. It is a delectable cheese sauce. I observed that when dipped, the cheese sauce... More
