Dining in history

This was a delightful dinner in a building with a grand aura of history, dating back to 1876. The saloon with bar nudes and magnificent landscape paintings is worth seeing. We ate out on the open air deck, which was quite pleasant on this mid-May evening. The cuisine was above average, and the... read more

Was pleasantly surprised. The Caesar salad was like I remember from years ago in California, one of the best I had. The steaks were great. Ambience wonderful. Thanks to Brian our waiter, at least I hope I remembered his name correctly. We ate there the last night of our 25th Anniversary Trip on our way home to Spokane. The wonderful... More

My husband and I had dinner here based on the recommendation of the front desk staff of our hotel. The ambiance was really very nice. The restaurant is in an old building with high ceilings. I had the Chicken Dijonnaise and it was excellent! My husband had the scallops provencal and thought they were excellent. The only thing I would... More

We had dinner here coming back from Oregon, so glad we did, our meal was omg great! Before we ordered, we saw the shrimp sandwich being delivered to a neighboring table so ordered it.....fantastic! The fries are some of the best we've ever had, fresh cut and home-cooked by the taste. My root beer float was very good. Our waitress... More

Read great reviews, so we went here for my birthday dinner while we were in town. When we arrived there were a few groups of people waiting to be greeted. Employees were running around but no one greeted any of us. When we finally did get greeted it was impersonal and I felt like we were inconveniencing her. We were... More

This truly will remind you of an old-timed saloon when you walk in the door. It's fun to sit at the bar or in one of the church pews that replaces chairs. The food is some of the best in The Dalles and if you love French onion soup you will be glad that you ordered it here.

I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was here. With the word "Saloon" in the name I thought it might be huge steaks and whiskey! But instead I got a great salmon dinner and a very good glass of wine. Service was very good. I was in The Dalles on business, so I was dining alone and sometimes... More

very disappointed in the "highly" recommended clam chowder. By far the worst I have ever had!!..there was a "Trip Advisor" sticker in their window...which is too bad as I wouldn't recommend it

We dined here April 20th because the Thai restaurant in town is closed Monday. Atmosphere ok, striving for the vintage feel because the building is old with high ceilings but doesn't quite get there because the interior is too new looking and too bright. Ordered cocktails which were fine and reasonably priced. The heart of my complaint about this place... More

The building is an old saloon right next to the railroad tracks in downtown The Dalles. I didn't really learn anything about the history of it, but it was quaint. The food was yummy. There were 6 in our party. Some had the very fresh oysters, and I had a special of the day which was great too. The local... More
