Fresh Food - On site

The Basalt Rock Cafe has a limited menu but the food is freshly made on sight with local produce. It is clean and comfortable. On days that are not too cold or too hot or too windy ... you can sit outside and just enjoy the fresh air and vistas. The staff was friendly and made us feel at home.... read more

It was nice to sit outside and enjoy the views while eating my tuna sandwich. It was nicely prepared and just perfect for a museum cafe. For museum food its very good - but as tuna fish sandwiches go it was average but good. I enjoyed it with an enjoyable ice tea. Staff here is friendly and helpful.

We had lunch before we started seeing the Discovery Center and it would have been worth the trip if we had just had lunch and had to leave. My Husband said his BLT was the best he had ever had and he has had hundreds over the years. The Bacon was extra, extra thick and from a local source as... More

A great place to visit for the Museum however, you would not know that lunch is available unless you walk to the rear of the Museum.... Please do that because it is a wonderful lunch... Please try the BLT... Outstanding if you love Bacon... Friendly ladies at the counter... By the way, there other entree's are just as good...

Prices are reasonable food is delicious. I added a 'soup of the day' Chili to my croisant for $1.50 extra so my meal was $9 for lots of delicious food. Hubby had his 'hamburger fix' which was $7 and a good burger also. Only a 4* because you order and pickup at counter. Atmosphere is fine, not a 'fast-food' vibe.

The Basalt Rock Cafe is located in the Columbia Discovery Center & Museum at The Dallas, Oregon. For lunch, my date was impressed with the home made tomato bisque soup and sourdough bread. My BLT sandwich on rye bread was excellent with large tomato slices and high quality bacon; best sandwich in years! The fresh ground coffee was excellent. Service... More
